The US issued a strong warning that it will destroy Iranian long-range missile shipments which have the potential of being delivered to the Maduro regime in Venezuela, a senior administration official revealed to Fox News.
“The transfer of long-range missiles from Iran to Venezuela is not acceptable to the United States and will not be tolerated or permitted,” said Elliott Abrams, who is the State Department Special Representative for Iran and Venezuela.
“We will make every effort to stop shipments of long-range missiles, and if somehow they get to Venezuela they will be eliminated there,” added a senior administration official. You don’t get more clear than that. Now, we’ll see if the Democrats attack the Trump administration for going against their besties.
The officials gave up nothing to indicate that any shipments were looming. They only pointed out that Iran and Venezuela are a likely pair for arms deals.
“Iran has announced its intention to engage in arms sales, and Venezuela is an obvious target because those two pariah regimes already have a relationship,” said Abrams. “Venezuela is paying in gold to buy gasoline from Iran, and there is an Iranian presence in the country. Venezuela’s economy has collapsed, so every bar of gold for Iran is tens of thousands of dollars the Venezuelan people need for food and medicine.”
Maduro misplaced his second time period election and refuses to depart workplace. On February 1st Reuters reported that the US, Canada and a number of other Latin American governments declared that Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro “stole his second-term election” in May 2018. They’ve subsequently acknowledged an opposition legislator – Juan Guaidó – as Venezuela’s interim president.
A United Nations embargo on Iran expired last week on buying and selling conventional weapons.
A UN embargo on Iran selling and/or buying conventional weapons expired last week. The Trump administration unsuccessfully tried to persuade the United Nations Security Council to extend the embargo. The Security Council was run by communists for decades.
Ties between Iran and Venezuela have been growing as both nations struggle under US sanctions. Iran has shipped missiles to militias it backs, so shipping missiles to allies is a probable next step.
“Iran has shipped missiles to the Houthis, so we know they are ready, willing, and able to ship them to Venezuela and other possible buyers,” said the administration official. “Every delivery of Iranian arms destabilizes South America and the Caribbean, and is especially dangerous to Venezuela’s neighbors in Brazil, Colombia, and Guyana.”
Back in August, Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro said he thought it was a “good idea” to talk about missile purchases with Iran, pointing to the “great relations we have with Iran,” Reuters reported at the time.
In May, Iran provided gasoline to Venezuela to ease their supply shortages, which sounded alarm bells in Washington as the two nations expand trade amid efforts to undermine aggressive U.S. sanctions programs. Don’t forget that Venezuela has the largest oil deposits in the world, but democratic socialism, the same radical prescriptions that Bernie Sanders (D-VT) wants to push Joe Biden to force on all of us, destroyed the once rich and vibrant oil economy, and so now they have to trade for gasoline with Iran, a terror state.“It had not occurred to me, it had not occurred to us,” Maduro jokingly said in a televised broadcast with cabinet members, asking Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino to follow up.
“Padrino, what a good idea, to speak with Iran to see what short, medium and long range missiles they have, and if it is possible, given the great relations we have with Iran.”
Over the last few months, Iran has sent three tanker ships with hundreds of thousands of barrels of gasoline to support Venezuela amid its fuel shortages and protests.
“Venezuela is paying in gold to buy gasoline from Iran, and there is an Iranian presence in the country. Venezuela’s economy has collapsed, so every bar of gold for Iran is tens of thousands of dollars the Venezuelan people need for food and medicine,” Abrams added.
