By now you’ve probably heard about the shooting of Jacob Blake, the black man that was shot by police when he refused to stand down.
Since he was black, the public is, of course, going nuts. Protests erupted in Wisconsin and looting and violence have run rampant.
Blake’s family have stated that they don’t condone violence but they do approve of the protests and want just justice.
The problem with this, however, is the fact that Blake threatened police officers. They had every right to shoot. It’s protocol.
The job of the police is to protect and serve. They did their job.
Details: Blake was told by police to stand still and he didn’t. He reached into his car. He allegedly had a knife. His kids- ages 3, 5, and 8, were also in the car.
Blake is now paralyzed from the waist down and his family, according to CNN, say they are proud of their son and want him to live a “great quality of life.” They’re acting like he led one before he was shot. He didn’t.
Any father that would threaten to harm police while his kids are in the car right next to him clearly isn’t already “living a great quality of life.”
Blake allegedly has a history of a violent past, assaulting police officers, there’s a warrant for his arrest, and has charges for sex crimes and domestic abuse.
People are acting like there needs to be this massive rush of justice for Blake. He didn’t die, something he should be thankful for as he was shot multiple times.
But he also wasn’t innocent. Justice needs to be taken for people who are innocent and harmed unnecessarily. George Floyd deserved justice as those officers were out of line. He got it. The officers are facing life in jail.
Blake, however, was refusing to listen to the police, and possibly had a knife. What about this is so hard for people to understand? It’s not about his skin color. At all.
If someone breaks into my house with the intent to hurt me or my family, I’m taking them down. This is one of the many reasons I own a gun. It doesn’t matter if the person intending to commit harm is black, white, or purple with pink polka dots.
It’s the right of Americans to protect themselves. Police officers have the right just as much as anyone. They tried to neutralize Blake with a taser, but when that didn’t work, used guns.
Once they shot him, they administered first aid. They didn’t just let him die there, they did their job.
America seriously needs to wake up to the reality that police have the right to defend themselves and use force. It’s legal. It’s their right.
I hope Blake recovers, I really do. But I also hope that the lives of the police who did their jobs aren’t ruined. We need to stop acting like every arrest that happens to an African American is racially motivated. Maybe, just maybe, it’s because the victim was intending to cause harm.
Stop defending criminals and start standing up for the police. You may just need them one day and they may get so tired of being painted as the bad guy that they don’t show up.
