Normally reporters are off-limits. Reporters have always gone out to do their job reporting on riots, protests, and other dangerous events, even natural disasters. Many in the field have guts, but until now reporters have usually been off-limits, because the violent ones being reported usually liked the fact that their story or cause was being told to the public. However, it now seems that those days are long gone after violent leftists started attacking leftist reporters. I have to assume they are leftist reporters because 99 44/100% of journalists are left-wing.
Reporters for Reuters covering the 2020 elections in the US, and the accompanying Marxist, ANTIFA, Black Lives Matter (BLM) riots that will come after, will now be issued protective gear just to hedge their bets that there will be protests after several recent incidents where journalists were targeted during the summer riots.
Stephen Adler, the editor-in-chief of Reuters news service since 2011 and president since 2012, told the Press Gazette that his 2,500 journalists were supplied with helmets, flak vests, and gas masks, as well as COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPE) including N95 masks, the newspaper reported.
“Our concern about the safety of journalists in the US is unprecedentedly high,” Adler said. “My own observation, both here and around the world, is that wearing that big ‘PRESS’ on your chest is no longer as much of a protection as it might once have been.
“Sometimes the press are targets, or sometimes just the fact that they’re press is simply ignored,” he added.
Dozens of journalists had been injured throughout the summer riots that were originally protests, but made a wrong turn. The paper mentioned two Reuters TV crew guys who were injured in Minneapolis just days after George Floyd’s May 25 death at the hands of Minneapolis police.
Minutes later, a cameraman who was filming a police officer, and was hit with rubber bullets. With the majority of incidents across the country being perpetrated by law enforcement, many journalists described feeling targeted, and in many cases, there were strong indications, like video evidence, that suggest cops knew they were dealing with reporters. However, in the moment, police aren’t interested in picking out journalists when they’re trying to quell a violent situation. And I’d love to know the number of incidents where leftist journalists did participate in the some of the protests. And how many times have cops gotten hurt because some rioter lied and said he was a journalist, only to have the police officer put his guard down and get attacked?about:blankTwitter URLPaste a link to the content you want to display on your site.EmbedLearn more about embeds(opens in a new tab)Sorry, this content could not be embedded.Try again Convert to link
Some journalists were hit with pepper spray along and got caught up in some violent force. In LA county, a radio reporter was arrested while covering the ambush shooting of two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies back in September. Again, sometimes police officers can’t distinguish who is a riot or and who is the journalist when the proverbial crap hits the fan. A lot of bad people out there lie to the police and tell them that they are journalists. It would be stupid for officers to accept that line at face value while at the same time in a fight for their lives.
Don’t forget American journalist and social media personality Andy Ngo in Portland while covering a 2019 Proud Boys march was attacked and injured by ANTI. Ngo was hit with a milkshake and claimed that blows to his head caused him to suffer a brain injury.
The Committee to Protect Journalists revealed back in July that it was investigating close to 500 incidents involving reporters since the end of May in which reporters were attacked and threatened with weapons.
“A vast majority of the attacks involve alleged police abuse,” the group said. “With First Amendment protections and robust media, the US has long been a beacon of press freedom, but journalists in this country today face severe threats.”
There have been more than 328 “press freedom violations” reported between May 26 and June 6, according to the latest count from the US Press Freedom Tracker, which is an association of advocacy groups including the Committee to Protect Journalists and Freedom of the Press Foundation. Given that many in the news media have actually blamed all police for the riots that took the country by storm this summer, police aren’t too encouraged to go out on a limb for them while trying to do their job.
Thus, the need to journalists to be issued protective gear. I hope journalists covering the coming leftist riots following today’s election will be allowed to do their jobs safe from violence. At the same time I hope they remember it’s the Left who is causing the violence and not Donald Trump or his supporters. The Left has called for violence for months and that story has been ignored by the same journalists who complain that they’re being hit with violence themselves. We have heard no Trump supporters calling for violence, and yet many journalists have tried, unsuccessfully, of claiming Trump supporters were the ones spreading violence across the country in an outrageous attempt to gaslight America.
