Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff announced Thursday that he will be running for U.S. Senate.
“Our democracy is at great risk. Because GOP leaders care more about power than anything else. And because our economy isn’t working for millions of hard working Americans. We’re in the fight of our lives—a fight I’m ready to lead as California’s next U.S. Senator,” Schiff said in a tweet.
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy recently confirmed that Schiff and Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell will be removed from the House Intelligence Committee and the House will vote on the removal of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee. Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s six-year term ends in 2024. Feinstein, who is 89-years-old, reportedly struggles with extensive memory loss. Feinstein has filed to run for reelection, however she has not declared a campaign for a sixth full term.
On Jan. 10, Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter announced her run for Feinstein’s seat, taking a shot at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and arguing that the U.S. Senate is a place where democracy “gets rigged.”
“Change can be electrifying and exhilarating. But change can also be disruptive. The constant assault on our democracy, and the dangerous imbalance in our economy. The threat from so-called leaders, like Mitch McConnell, has made the U.S. Senate a place where rights get revoked, special interests get rewarded, and our democracy gets rigged,” Porter said in a Twitter video declaring her candidacy.
