John Durham interviewed John Brennan for eight hours and he covered a wide range of topics. One of the topics was how the ICA ( Intelligence Community Assessment ) was put together.
The problem with the ICA was that James Comey and Andrew McCabe allegedly pushed to include information from the Steele dossier.
The CIA opposed including material from the dossier because they thought it was very invariable.
One CIA analyst called it Internet rumor.
The ICA was used to open investigations into President Trump. Intelligence Community Assessment Intelligence Community Assessment were people pressing to use the fake dossier in order to start an investigation of Trump.
That would be against FBI and CIA protocol and people will have to answer for it.
The FBI and the CIA fought over including the dossier. The FBI won and they added a two page summary in the appendix. The FBI knew at the time that Steele was unreliable but they used it any way.
Bill Priestap, the FBI’s chief of counterintelligence through 2018 was told by his counterparts in England that Steele could not always be trusted. He did not share that information with those running the investigation.
AG Bill Barr said they are also investigating whether the Russians were feeding misinformation to Steele and others. Barr hasn’t talked about what has been discovered so far but he did say that what he had seen was very troubling.
He said in an interview on Aug. 13 that there will likely be “significant” developments in the Durham probe before the election.
FBI officials, including James Comey and Andrew McCabe, lobbied aggressively to include information from the dossier in the ICA. Officials and analysts at the CIA did not want to use the information because they found it unreliable. One CIA analyst said that the agency considered the dossier to be “Internet rumor,” according to a Justice Department inspector general’s report.
One CIA analyst told the Senate Intelligence Committee that a “bitter dispute” ensued between the agency and FBI over the dossier information. The FBI eventually got its way, and a two-page summary of the dossier was included as an appendix in the ICA.
