Who was the poster child for progressives in the USA? Venezuela, the most recent democratic socialist country to collapse. For decades it was lifted up by politicians, like Bernie Sanders and entertainers like Sean Penn, Danny Glover, and activists such as Micheal More.
“It wasn’t that long ago that Venezuela, which possesses the world’s largest crude oil reserves, was a relatively stable democracy with one of Latin America’s fastest-rising economies. It was a nation so awash in petroleum revenues that the socialist government of the late former President Hugo Chavez spent huge amounts on social programs and, at one point, even provided free heating oil for impoverished Americans.”
In line with other failed socialist states, the government using the cash flow and their popularity from proving free services, began a power grab and control of other industries, limiting the opportunities and incentives for those with wealth to compete against them.
Starting in 2014, the South American nation began suffering a startling collapse. Venezuela’s gross domestic product started plummeting even more than the United States during the Great Depression, many of its nearly 32 million inhabitants became unable to afford food, and resource-starved hospitals did not have enough soap and antibiotics.
So with this in mind, why is a majority of college students, faculties, the media, and progressive politicians forcing policies to be enacted which mirror those present in the collapsed Venezuelan nation? The answer; Power, popularity, and control, the same evil trifecta, innate in the fall of Marxist leaders.
Remember Micahel More’s tweet. Here was a comment from 2019, 6 years later, and 5 years into their collapse.
A growing number of Venezuelans are posting videos, writing articles, and speaking around the US, about what they experienced, so we don’t repeat the socialist policies here in the USA.
King Solomon wrote – “As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly” (Proverbs 26:11).
Edmund Burke noted Irish statesman and philosopher – “Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.”. He also penned “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
We know history, and there are enough men and women in the United States Of America to stop leftists from repeating the failed policies of Marxism. Now is the time to take our stand, and make history as the country that turned back from the usual progression of freedom to tyranny.
