Today, as a Republican politician, you can make or break your career on how you answer the question of if you support President Donald Trump. America First is the name of the game for the Trump GOP and the opposite would be the establishment types like Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
McConnell knows the rules of the Senate like a master and he’s pretty good with getting good, conservative judges through, but he is the one politician who boggles the mind by being hated by more people from both sides of the political aisle, for differing reasons, and yet he has maintained his power in the Senate for years.
Now, that may come to an end. A new book is exposing McConnell’s true colors, and it doesn’t look good for the 80-year-old senator from Kentucky.
According to author Jonathan Martin’s new book, “This Will Not Pass,” on January 6, McConnell let it be known that he didn’t really give a rat’s rump about Trump supporters, the President Trump and his family, or the Capitol Police.
The Senate minority leader didn’t want to find out who really caused the riot at the Capitol that day. Instead, he was telling people that he was certain that Trump was behind the riots. The Republican leader never asked why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi turned down Trump’s offer to send National Guard troops to protect the Capitol on January 6 after making the offer several times in the days leading up to January 6, only to be turned down by the Sergeant at Arms, who reports directly to the Speaker, each and every time.
McConnell never showed concern about the four dead Trump supporters, and he has never once even asked about the Trump supporters who have been locked up in the DC Gitmo for over a year on misdemeanor charges because they protested an election that was stolen which is constitutionally protected. Many of the people sitting in jail never entered the building and nearly all of them were not violent and caused zero damage.
McConnell never cared that the election was stolen because it wasn’t his election that was stolen and he was gleeful that Trump is out of DC.
What McConnell did on January 6 are covered in the book.
HuffPost writer Josephine Harvey penned the story on Yahoo!
In the hours after supporters of Donald Trump laid siege to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly said he was “exhilarated” that the then-president had finally ruined his reputation.
“I feel exhilarated by the fact that this fellow finally, totally discredited himself,” McConnell told Jonathan Martin, a New York Times reporter who detailed the exchange in a new book, “This Will Not Pass.” Excerpts of the book were obtained and reported on by The Washington Post on Monday.
“He put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger,” the Kentucky Republican reportedly told Martin at the U.S. Capitol in the early hours of Jan. 7. “Couldn’t have happened at a better time.”
He also asked the political correspondent for intelligence on whether the Cabinet and vice president might considering removing Trump from office using provisions of the 25th Amendment, according to the book.
It appears that McConnell was working with Democrats to get rid of Trump. For years, McConnell was one of the RINO establishment types who would campaign for the things that Republican constituents wanted to hear, but they never got them done. Trump came along and got most of them done and in record time.
It never ceases to amaze me how after Trump really made America great again in under four years, many Republicans despised him. It is a sign of weakness to fall for the non-stop barrage of lies spread by the leftist misinformation news media about Trump for four years. Instead of standing up to the bullies on the Left and defending their president, they cowered in fear and joined the fray. Who needs them?
So, McConnell worked with Pelosi and then Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to side with the lie that Trump incited an insurrection and said “screw you” to the president and the American people who voted Republican in 2020.
The Washington establishment types from both parties did not like an outsider coming into DC and proving they were incompetent fools who have been there for decades and got nothing done. Trump made it look easy cleaning up the mess of the swamp, and they will never forgive him for it.
