On Sunday, May 9, seven people were shot and one was killed in multiple incidents in Minneapolis. On the next night, another person was shot and killed. Arrests are falling behind as are prosecutions. Many people in the city have taken notice and are complaining to Jacob Frey, the Minneapolis Mayor whenever he gives a speech to the public. Pastor Dale Hume spoke up and said that the city’s move to defund the police hasn’t worked out so well and “you can obviously see that is not the solution.” Frey agreed with the Pastor.
As reported by CBS Minnesota:
“The violence needs to stop, its unacceptable. People deserve to feel safe in their neighborhood, they deserve to be able to send their kids out to the sidewalk to play and to recreate without bullets flying by. That’s unacceptable. We should be holding these perpetrators accountable,” Frey said…
“It’s just the reality of the solution, you know. When you make big, overarching statements that we’re going to defund or abolish and dismantle the police department and get rid of all the officers, there’s an impact to that,” Frey said. “Do we need massive change? Yes we do. We need accountability and culture shift within our department, and we need police.”
Mayor Frey says he plans to release a plan later this week that includes laying out both safety and accountability.
It’s like when he had his band name tattooed to his forehead, he didn’t really know how to spell Maroon.
I don’t know if he is intentionally contradicting himself or if he just doesn’t know any better. Frey said there is too much violence in the city and that they need the police and then in the same breath he said there needs to be “massive change ” and accountability on the police.
Life is much more difficult for Democrat politicians and they do it to themselves. On one hand, they have to appease the law-abiding, decent, normal human beings and on the other hand, they realize that criminals and family members of criminals also have the right to vote, so they have to appease them as well. Those two appeasements collide. This results in the Democrat looking like a fool who is speaking out of both sides of his mouth.
Instead of worrying about appeasing people for his next election, Frey should be more concerned with locking up the shooters, murderers, looters, and rioters to protect the whole community.
Right now, the Minneapolis city council has gone so far over the edge they may not be able to fix the crime problem any time soon. They don’t have a sufficient number of cops to deal with the rising crime because many officers retired early or just walked off the job. Can you blame them? The politicians in Minneapolis threw them under the bus after the death of George Floyd, defunded them, and made rules so that it would be nearly impossible to do their jobs effectively. Frey even invited the US Department of Justice (DOJ) to open an investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department.
Crime is continuing to rise in Minneapolis even though Derek Chauvin has been found “Please don’t hurt us” by a jury of his peers on all three of the counts he was charged. Wasn’t that what the rioters and real protesters wanted? Liberals thought that the bad things would go away after the trial, but it’s going in the opposite direction. Could it be that criminals in Minneapolis are behaving the same way criminals react everywhere when they learn that the city is not capable of stopping them from committing crimes?
