In physics, For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That applies to defunding the police also as the residents of Minneapolis are beginning to find out.
After the death of George Floyd, the Minneapolis city council and the mayor went full liberal and swore they would dismantle the police department and they encouraged rioters to oppose the police.
That leads us to the reaction. Crime is way up in the city and morale among police officers is way down. Violent carjacking has seen a 537% increase since they began their defund the police movement.
In situations such as they have in that city, police have a tendency to back off because if the altercation should break out, they don’t want to get charged with a crime.
How many times have we seen police shoot an armed man and the riots break out? Too many. It is often used as an excuse to loot stores and businesses.
Businesses have been destroyed and will never come back. Not only from the riots but the virus as well. It’s a double whammy that many small businesses can not recover from.
In just the last two months there have been almost 130 carjacking cases. There were 3 in a one hour span. In November, the number of carjacking cases were an increase of 537% over November of last year. The jackings were initially believed to be youths but there have started being arrests of adults committing the crime.
The newspaper said Tuesday that Minneapolis has seen at least 375 carjackings in 2020, including 17 just last week. Those to-date 2020 figures are more than three times higher than all of 2019.
This current spate of attacks has been so significant that the Minneapolis Police Department was forced to create a new coding system after the violent protest-filled summertime saw an unusually high number of carjackings.
Minneapolis’ remaining cops have been taken aback by the specific crime wave. “The numbers are staggering,” police spokesman John Elder told the Star Tribune. “It defies all civility and any shred of common human decency.”
You can expect crime numbers to increase dramatically as the city council eliminates at least some of the police. many of the offenders could be those who now have no jobs thanks to the riots and the draconian lockdowns. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
