Michigan Senate Majority leader, Mike Shirkey told the Hillsdale County Republicans that the unrest in Washington DC was staged. The meeting on February 3rd was secretly recorded and then it was released to the public. For the record, I don’t think it was staged. But I also believe there was antifa present and involved in the riot. That’s not to excuse the Trump supporters who broke into the Capitol.
During the conversation, Shirkey says that the January 6 protest “wasn’t Trump people.” GOP members are not pleased with Shirkey’s leadership. They claim that he caves to the Democrats all of the time. The video was probably released to use for leverage against Shirkey. If he really is a RINO, cut him loose. He can go somewhere else to appease the Democrat6s. I suggest CNN.
“That’s been a hoax from day one, that was all pre-arranged,” Shirkey adds, asserting that the people “went in on separate buses, that was all arranged by somebody that was funding everyone.”
Here is the entire raw video:
Shirkey issued an apology for his comments in a statement released on Tuesday.
“I said some things in a videoed conversation that are not fitting for the role I am privileged to serve,” the statement said. “I own that. I have many flaws. Being passionate coupled with an occasional lapse in restraint of tongue are at least two of them.”
In a subsequent statement, Shirkey added that “I frankly don’t take back any of the points I was trying to make.”
“Some of the words I chose I do regret,” he said.
The Hillsdale County Republican Party voted voted 14-5 to censure Shirkey on Monday for not standing up to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on lockdowns and supporting a ban on the open carrying firearms at the state Capitol “when no violent attack with firearms has ever taken place.”
It may be time for Shirkey to0 go as long as they replace him with a true conservative. We have had our share of establishment Republicans only interested in maintaining the status quo.
People like Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy need to go along with Liz Cheney, who is a total disgrace. There was a long period between presidents who fought for you and me.
Reagan left office in early 1989 and Trump took office in early 2017.
That’s 28 years.
