On Tuesday, the jury found Michael Sussmann not guilty of making a false statement (lying) to the FBI back in September 2016 when he told the FBI that he was not working on behalf of any client, when he brought false information to the Bureau alleging there were secret communications going on between the Trump Organization and the Russian Alfa Bank.
It’s no surprise he was acquited as this was a DC jury and the city hates Donald Trump, so it’s not a stretch to think jury members would throw out the facts and toss away logic and the evidence presented to vote against Orange Man Bad.
The trial lasted two weeks and deliberations went for more than a day, but when all was said and done, the DC jury said that Special Counsel John Durham’s team didn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Sussmann’s statement to the FBI was a lie, even though Helen Keller could have seen that Sussmann was working for the Clinton campaign and Rodney Joffe, a tech executive.
It’s not like the prosecution provided Sussmann’s billing statements showing he billed for Alfa Bank research. Oh, wait. They did!
It’s not like Sussmann testified before Congress that he handed over the Fake Alfa Bank data to Baker on behalf of a client. Oh, wait. He did!
Sussmann was charged with making a false statement to the FBI during his meeting with then-FBI General Counsel James Baker on Sept. 19, 2016, and he pleaded not guilty.
There were two jurors who should have been struck down for the trial, one a government employee saying they donated to the Democrats in 2016, and another government employee who told the judge they “strongly” disliked former President Donald Trump. But since both of them told the judge they were capable of sitting on the jury and be impartial (wink wink), the judge allowed them to remain.
In case you didn’t think the jury pool could get even more contaminated, one of the jurors has a child who was on the same high school sports team as Sussmann’s kid.
I can imagine the verdict: “We the jury find the liar not guilty.”
As I said, Durham’s prosecution team presented evidence of billing records that were dated between July 29 and October 2016 that showed Sussmann repeatedly billed the Clinton campaign for work on the Alfa Bank opposition research being done against Donald Trump!
Sussmann didn’t testify in his defense.
After receiving the information from Sussmann, the FBI started to investigate whether there was a back channel created between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank. What the Fake News media didn’t report until it was too late was that the FBI found out through the investigation that there was nothing there with several FBI agents testifying they were “unable to substantiate any of the allegations in the white paper” that Sussmann delivered.
Baker testified that the investigation “did not reveal there was some kind of surreptitious communications channel.”
“We concluded there was no substance. We couldn’t confirm it. We could not confirm there was a surreptitious communications channel,” Baker said.
“There was nothing there,” he added.
Marc Elias, the former general counsel for the Clinton campaign , who worked with Sussmann at the law firm Perkins Coie in 2016, testified that he was the one who hired Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm, for the Clinton campaign.
Elias said Fusion GPS during that time was also working for the DNC, which was related to its work for the Clinton campaign.
He also testified that Clinton campaign officials knew of the opposition research Fusion GPS was doing against Trump. That includes Jake Sullivan, who is currently serving as Biden’s White House National Security advisor. Unbelievable!
Former Trump administration AG Bill Barr appointed Durham as a special counsel for the purpose of ensuring he would be able to continue his task which was to investigate the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation hoax that plagued the Trump administration for years.
Here’s my take. Based on the facts and the evidence presented, there was more than enough evidence to prove Sussmann was guilty.
Sussmann lied to to the then-FBI General Counsel, James Baker just to get the meeting to hand over the Trump-Alfa Bank communication hoax to the FBI.
Sussmann then lied again during the meeting with Baker, making the false statement that he was not there on any client’s behalf, so that he could convince the FBI to begin an investigation into the Trump Organization over alleged communications with Alfa Bank. The whole thing was faked.
Finally, Sussmann said during testimony to Congress that he met with FBI General counsel Baker on behalf of a client.
That, and the billing records made this case a slam dunk for any jury outside of Washington, DC.
Just like the 2016 and 2020 elections, it looks like the Sussmann trial, in my humble opinion, was rigged.
