Rep Jim Banks (R) In is proposing legislation that will strip government benefits from anyone caught rioting. This covers the rioters but not the peaceful protesters. The Democrats will try to convince you otherwise. They will tell you it’s to stop the protests altogether. They need an excuse to vote the bill down. It is not a good excuse but it will do.
Banks makes the case that someone should not be supported by the taxpayers to commit crimes like arson and assault. How else do they support themselves? Most of Soros’ money probably goes for weapons and transportation. And unemployment now pays $600 a week. I agree with Banks and we should withhold the money from them.
The bill, known as the “Support Peaceful Protest Act,” would also make them responsible for the cost of the policing their criminal acts caused to be necessary. The cost should deter some but will pull it from those receiving taxpayer funded government benefits. It could end up being a costly decision to riot.
Banks said :
“Antifa thugs are descending on suffering communities, disrupting peaceful protests and leaving violence, looting and vandalism in their wake. They turned Milwaukee, Seattle and Portland into warzones, and now they’re moving the chaos to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Who knows which community is next?”
“Due to enhanced federal benefits, taxpayers are giving wages to jobless rioters that are destroying our communities. We need to cut them off from their funding and make them feel the full financial consequences of their actions.”
The taxpayers should not be subsidizing the riots but at this time we are. Let them come up with the money elsewhere, but don’t pick my pocket.
This vote could put the Democrats in a precarious position. If they vote for it, the will lose the BLM and antifa vote. If they vote against it, they lose everyone else’s. One has to wonder how many will quit rioting in order to keep the gravy train rolling.
Here is the basic penalties within the bill:
1 the course of a protest with respect to which a Federal
2 law enforcement officer was engaged in policing activity,
3 the court shall, in addition to the penalty for such conviction, order the individual to pay an order of restitution
5 to the appropriate Federal law enforcement agency in an
6 amount that is equal to the cost of such policing activity,
7 as determined by the court.
8 SEC. 3. INELIGIBILITY FOR ENHANCED FEDERAL UNEM9 PLOYMENT BENEFITS.
10 An individual convicted of a Federal offense related
11 to the individual’s conduct at and during the course of
12 a protest, is ineligible for any Federal Pandemic Unem13 ployment Compensation under section 2104 of the
14 CARES Act (15 U.S.C. 9023) or any other Federal supplemental unemployment compensation during the
16 COVID–19 public health emergency (as such term is de17 fined in section 2102 of the CARES Act (15 U.S.C.
This is a common-sense bill but that won’t get it any votes in the House where Democrats are in the majority. It is your right to protest but there is no right to riot. You have the right to march but not to loot. The constitution grants you the right to speak out but not to burn buildings.
The Democrats have given President Trump a major issue of law and order going into the November elections. It is an issue that he wins hands down since Democrats have always refused to condemn the riots. It is too late for them to take the other tack now, but Joe Biden is trying.
The Democrats want to defund the police and allow the rioters to run wild.
