If the issue is to eliminate the remnants of the confederacy from the United States Capitol, perhaps we should begin with Democrat Party. It was the Democrat party that followed the views of the late John C. Calhoun, who insisted slavery was national.
When we talk about the Confederacy, we can easily replace that name with the Democratic Party. Some argue that the Democratic party then is different than the party now. They “believe” that when the Democrats voted in the Civil Rights Act that that meant they changed their ideology. In fact, all they did was change their tactics to get the black vote.
Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 helped end segregation on grounds of race in the South, a critical objective for which grassroots black Southern activists fought and died, the legislation did little to address the structures of racism that shaped black lives.
The Democratic vision of social justice was very limited. Some say they passed the legislation, stayed in power, and moved on.
If the Democrats truly care about equality for blacks why haven’t they addressed housing, jobs, integrated schools, crime, and prison reform in their states and cities? Democratic states have the worst black neighborhoods in America thanks to unequal opportunities. Look at Chicago, L.A., New York, Pennslyvania, and Detroit.
The truth is, the Democrats are the only party that is benefiting from blacks being inequal. Even Elizabeth Warren admitted that the Democratic party always makes promises to blacks they never make good on.
Every election cycle they promise big changes are on the horizon for blacks. They pander at every opportunity they get.
The real question is, why do blacks continue to vote for a party that hasn’t done anything for them except perpetuate their need to depend on them.
Just like in Kentucky the governor has promised free healthcare for blacks. Instead of creating better circumstances where blacks can have better jobs and provide better healthcare for their families, they create a system where blacks are dependent on them.
Many claim that blacks are waking up. After the riots in N.Y. blacks chanted for both DeBlasio and Cuomo to resign. Could it be that they finally see that they are a huge part of the problem?
Chants for De Blasio to go home at Floyd protest.
