Hillary Clinton Will Be Voting as a New York Electoral College Member

Former Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has announced that she is not your average voter in this year’s presidential election.

Clinton will be casting a vote this year as one of the 538 members of the Electoral College.

On Tuesday, Clinton appeared on SiriusXM’s “Signal Boost”. She discussed her plans for election day, what it might look like to stand in a long line, and then she told her interviewers that she has joined the Electoral College:

“I’m an elector in New York,” she said. “I’m sure I’ll get to vote for Joe and Kamala in New York. So, that’s pretty exciting.”

Clinton also explained to her interviewers that she’s not even letting herself think about the possibility of another Trump victory:

“I’m not gonna think about it. I cannot imagine that he would be re-elected after the damage that he’s caused and I can’t imagine four more years of this abuse and destruction. So, no, I don’t think about it. I refuse to.”

In 2016, Clinton won the popular vote by 2.9 million votes, but she lost the election because she didn’t secure enough votes in the Electoral College.

There has been a growing movement among Democrats since the 2016 election calling for the abolition of the Electoral College, arguing in favor of a more direct democratic process than the republican one handed to us by the Founders.

Clinton has been among those voices calling for the college’s abolition.

“I think it needs to be eliminated,” she told CNN in 2017. “I’d like to see us move beyond it, yes.”

New York has 29 electoral votes of the Electoral College’s total 538. The Electoral College is made to reflect our representative bodies in number – 435 for the House, 100 for the Senate, and 3 for the District of Columbia.

According to both CNN and RealClear Politics, Biden has the lead in New York’s polls days ahead of the election.
