Trey Gowdy took AOC to school over the cause of the massive violence surge in New York City. AOC claimed that crime was up because people were shoplifting bread and are unable to pay their rent. Petty larceny is actually down in NY by 7.5%. Murders are up by 27.1% and shootings are up 53.5%.
Trey Gowdy is no longer in congress but he is still able to crack the whip on anybody and at anytime. When he was a prosecutor, he was known by his nickname, which was “The Bulldog.” It appears that he has the same effect against former bartenders. He took AOC and then promptly ate her lunch as he commented on her ridiculous assertion.
AOC on increased NYC crime: “Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent & are scared to pay their rent & so they go out & they need to feed their child & they don’t have money so… they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry.” pic.twitter.com/oHSTWWJZ6a

This comes on the heels of a massive increase in crime, especially murders and shootings. Just last weekend a one year old boy was shot and killed and it had nothing to do with poverty unless, of course, the boy had a loaf of bread on his lap at the time.
And if poverty is the problem, would it not have been a good idea for the bartender to have welcomed Amazon and their 25,000 great paying jobs instead of chasing them out of town. Not to mention all of the ancillary jobs that would be created to service Amazon’s offices as well as their employees’ needs such as food, clothing and entertainment.
Gowdy commented on his 20 years as a prosecutor versus AOC’s experience serving beer and mixed drinks. She suffered by comparison. Gowdy pointed out that you are as likely to be hurt by a rich person as a poor one.
“Go check the criminal histories of the people committing these murders. See how many of them are committing their first criminal offense since the pandemic started and see how many of them are career offenders, where this is just the culmination of a lifetime of crime that resulted in murder. I’ll bet you they are not first-time offenders.”
