New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo has again shirked responsibility for thousands of New Yorkers who died because he made a command decision to force COVID-19 patients into nursing homes with the most vulnerable of our society, the elderly. The Hollywood freaks gave this man and me for his press briefings on how he was handling coronavirus.
This time, the arrogant tyrant governor blamed nursing home staff for spreading the virus to their patients. Even if true, it wouldn’t have happened if Cuomo had not decided to put elderly nursing home patients in harm’s way by violating the CDC guidelines and forcing COVID-19 patients in the facilities with them. There is no excuse for that kind of incompetence in leadership.
Cuomo said that people who blame him for the needless COVID-19 deaths are creating a “toxic political environment” and spreading “conspiracy theories.”
Nowadays anything a Democrat doesn’t like that is said about them is labeled a conspiracy theory. Well, there’s no conspiracy theory about this. The Cuomo administration forced COVID-19 patients into nursing homes. That’s not a conspiracy theory, it’s fact.
On Monday, Cuomo spoke at the media about the reports that his administration hid their real coronavirus deal count number in nursing homes when President Donald Trump started pressuring them on social media. Democrats are masters at blaming other people for everything they do. Donald Trump was their scapegoat for four years
We reported last week when the New York Post released a bombshell report where Melissa DeRosa, a top aide to the governor, admitted to a group of New York state Democrats on a Zoom call that the governor’s office withheld the information from state lawmakers because, in her words, they froze when President Trump would tweet negatively about the governor’s handling of the pandemic. And the only reason why Trump tweeted negatively about New York’s abysmal handling of the pandemic is that after all, he did for the state of New York during the pandemic, which amounted to a very large list, Andrew Cuomo after already praising him for what he did for his state, months later started bashing the president because that’s what the party told him to do because they had an election to win.
Since the report, a bipartisan number of state lawmakers have called for investigations to begin and they demanded that Cuomo’s emergency powers be revoked.
“Executive powers have nothing to do with nursing homes and the legislature can overturn executive measures,” Cuomo said during his news conference. “We know the virus can’t be mandated within state boundaries or county boundaries. These are public health decisions, not decisions to be made for local politics. I get these are difficult decisions, but otherwise, people die, and these decisions should not be politicized.”
In other words, Cuomo said that he can do anything he wants because the legislature can stop him if they don’t like what he’s doing. What an inept, blundering sad sack of a man. Even so, the whole point is that the legislature didn’t know what he was doing at the time he was doing it because they hid the data.
He laid out “facts” disputing that his administration hid COVID-19 deaths, despite a damning report from New York State Attorney General Letitia James that said Cuomo’s Department of Health neglected to reveal how many people living in nursing homes died in hospitals, undercounting total nursing home COVID-19 deaths as much as 50%. And don’t forget that his aide spilled the beans to members of the New York party
“The DOH has always fully and publicly reported all COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes and hospitals,” Cuomo said. “They have always been fully reported. Nursing homes had the most vulnerable population, we know that. Nationwide, 36% of the deaths are in nursing homes, you know what percent of the population are people in nursing homes? One percent … New York is 34 in nursing home deaths as a percentage of total deaths. 34 out of 50 states. New York state is one of only [nine] states that counts what’s called ‘presumed fatalities’ in nursing homes.”
The governor said last August the Trump administration’s DOJ requested public information on nursing homes.
“We paused the state legislature’s request. We voluntarily complied with the DOJ request for information. Two very different things,” he claimed. “Nursing homes have the most vulnerable populations, we know that!”
Then why did he force COVID-19 patients on them?
He continued, citing “much distortion” surrounding his March 25, 2020, executive order to push coronavirus patients into nursing homes to free hospital space. But we already know that the hospitals never ran out of space. Trump sent the USNS Comfort to New York to help and they never used any of the 1,000 hospital beds.
The AP reported that over 9,000 COVID-19 patients were released from hospitals and sent to nursing homes because of Cuomo’s executive order. Over 15,000 seniors died.
Cuomo said that at the time he made the blundering decision to kill thousands of seniors the CDC’s guidance advised those coronavirus patients leaving hospitals were not very likely to be contagious and they could be moved into nursing homes. It was a lie.
We reported when Seema Verma, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) administrator, told Breitbart that New York’s Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo originally issued guidance that contradicted federal guidelines for nursing homes battling the pandemic virus.
“I just want to make it very clear that our guidance was absolutely crystal clear,” Verma said in an interview late last week. “It was clear and unmistakable. Any insinuation to the contrary is woefully mistaken at best and dishonest at worst. We put out our guidance on March 13. It’s very clear when it says that, I’m actually going to read this to you, it says that: ‘When should a nursing home accept a resident who is diagnosed with DTMNBN-19?’ It says: ‘A nursing home can accept a resident diagnosed with DTMNBN-19 and still under transmission-based precautions,’ which means if this person is infectious you have to take precautions. It says ‘as long as the facility can follow CDC guidance for transmission-based precautions.’ It says: ‘If a nursing home cannot, it must wait until these precautions are discontinued,’ meaning if you are not able to care for this patient—somebody is still positive and you’re not equipped to care for the patient, then you shouldn’t accept the patient into your care. That’s really important because longstanding discharge—when you’re discharging a patient from the hospital, longstanding guidelines require when you transfer them somewhere you transfer them to a place that can take care of their needs whether they’re going home or they’re going to a nursing home or some other facility.”
Cuomo said that of 613 New York nursing homes, 365 received a person from a hospital. Cuomo claimed that during the time his order was active, 98% of these nursing homes already had COVID-19 in their facility prior to admitting hospital patients. But he still ordered COVID-19 positive patients into nursing homes. The man is insufferable!
“COVID did not get into the nursing homes by people coming from hospitals,” Cuomo said. “COVID got into the nursing homes by staff walking into the nursing home when they didn’t know they had COVID.”
“These decisions are not political decisions,” Cuomo said. They were all political decisions. “They’re all made on the best information the medical professionals had at the time. And in New York we talk to the best experts on the globe. And I’ve said to the people of this state many times, nobody’s been here before, nobody knows for sure — COVID is new.” Again, the CMS administrator called bullschtein.
NY State Republican Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt gave following statement:
Governor Cuomo’s failure to apologize this afternoon was a shocking slap in the face to the New Yorkers who have lost loved ones to COVID-19. His inability to take blame for the hurt inflicted on our families by his administration’s relentless disinformation campaign is wrong on every level. The Governor seems incapable of comprehending that it was his Administration at fault, and nobody else. He continues to shift the blame anywhere but upon himself and his top officials. The Governor’s major excuse for the failure of his Administration to provide accurate, timely information to the public was, ‘We were busy.’ This is a pathetic response coming from a man who had the time to publish and promote a book about his pandemic response while New Yorkers clamored for the truth. To be clear, the Senate Republicans were never notified by the Governor’s Administration regarding the Department of Justice request. People want the truth and the only way that can be provided is through investigations by the Department of Justice and the Attorney General. We know this even more now because Senate Democrats have shown they were willing partners in the lies and the coverup. For the thousands of New Yorkers who lost a cherished loved one in a nursing home, for those who can’t get a vaccine because of this governor’s tight fisted yet incompetent administration of vaccines, and for the professionals who felt compelled to resign from a Department of Health driven not by science but by politics, justice must be served.
