The O’Rourke family woke one morning last week to find that the Trump flags they had hung on their front porch had been removed and lit on fire during the night.
All that remained of them was piles of ash in their front yard.
The Montana family of six had hung two Trump flags on their front porch. But last week, the family woke up to find “a charred pile of flag” in their yard.
The incident was caught on surveillance video. A man had entered their yard in the middle of the night, taken their Trump flags, and lit them on fire only 20 feet from their home while they slept.
“I felt violated,” said Julia O’Rourke. “I felt that my kids’ and my life and my husband’s life were in danger. It could have easily burned my house down.”
Julia explained that conditions were perfect for a careless flame to destroy their entire house – the city was under a fire ban, their old home was built in 1907 and hasn’t been remodeled, and the flags were burned a dangerously close distance from their home.
The Montana Republican Party shared KBZK 7’s news report on the event, stating, “The liberal mob isn’t just in cities across the country, it’s right here in Montana and it’s threatening the safety of freedom-loving Montanans.”
Julia described the whole event as “very eerie”.
The O’Rourkes called their county sheriff’s office to report the incident.
A man by the name of Eric Herrera has been identified as the man in the surveillance video and was cited by police with misdemeanor criminal mischief.
Despite the scary event, Julia expressed to KBZK 7 a sense of relief: “That’s the most important thing is that we still have a roof over our head and our children are alive and safe.”
