On Tuesday, Netflix, in a statement to shareholders, said that during the first quarter of 2022, the company experienced its first net loss of subscribers in over a decade. The company revealed that 200,000 users dropped the service between January and March.
Elon Musk, who is the richest man in the world, and is trying to buy the social media company Twitter to make it a private company that will become a free speech platform, has diagnosed what he believes is a disease that is causing Netflix’s dreaded financial hardships.
CNBC reported that this news caused the streaming platform’s stock shares to drop over 25 percent.
How bad was this revelation? Netflix had already told its shareholders that the company was going to realize a net gain of 2.5 million subscribers during the first quarter of 2022. Instead, they had a projected loss of 2,700,000 subscribers, if we are to believe they were ever going to get 2.5 million new subscribers.
If that news wasn’t bad enough, Netflix then projected another loss of 2 million more subscribers for the second quarter for 2022, and that revelation resulted in the company’s stock crashing another 30 percent on Wednesday.
Musk spoke up and blamed “woke ideology” as the cause of Netflix’s subscriber and imminent financial troubles.
Responding to news of the significant stock tumble, Musk said, “The woke mind virus is making Netflix unwatchable.”

User Pranay Pathole tweeted, “woke mind virus is the biggest threat to the civilization,” and Musk responded, “Yes.”

Here’s the thing. Netflix, like many other platforms and corporations in general, has fallen prey to the lie that the woke in our society – nay – the entire world, is the dominate group among the world populations.
Years ago, Rush Limbaugh pointed out that liberal boycott groups would attack corporations giving off the impression that they represent millions of their customers when in reality it was more like 4 people with a computer and a legitimate-looking letterhead making it appear like they represented a lot of people. I argue that the same goes with leftist platforms today. Twitter, for example, comes across as a haven for loudmouthed woke leftists when studies were done showing about 10 percent of the Twitter user base are responsible for about 80 percent of the content on the platform.
For some strange reason, corporate executives, either from fear or acquiescence, have decided to appease a small minority of what I would call the freaks of society, while abandoning the general population’s desires. That’s what happened to Netflix. They grew so big that they no longer saw customers as individuals. They started to see them as regions of people, and when the wokety woke woke crowd started getting fired up and used their usual tactics to move in and take over the corporate culture through threats and intimidation, Netflix executives apparently caved.
Don’t get me wrong. Netflix, as a company, has the right to create any content they please. But at the same time, their subscribers have the right to leave. Non-woke people, which like it or not, are still the base of their subscribership, do not want the kind of content that Netflix has been promoting since the start of open wokeness and they have responded by leaving.
As an example, the Netflix movie “Cuties” sexualized little girls. The American people generally do not like seeing or even hearing about things like that. This is why there is much backlash against teachers who groom little children in classrooms to indoctrinate them into the LGBTQ+ the little caret symbol and the Tilda thingy that sometimes goes over some Spanish letters ideology. They may not be trying to get children to turn into one of them, but even the idea of teaching a 5-year-old child what it is that they do is flat out wrong by most parents’ standards.
Netflix knew Cuties would have backlash from normal people. According to The Verge, Netflix “scrambled internally to suppress” the “controversial movie from search results.” And the movie’s creators thought they would smooth things over by telling subscribers and others that the movie was a commentary on social media and the hypersexualization of young girls. The backlash to the poster, that didn’t share the same self-awareness that Director Maïmouna Doucouré did, was immediate. #CancelNetflix and #SaveTheChildren hashtags started trending on Twitter. Of course, the backlash was blamed on Qanon conspiracy nuts.
Another example would be the Netflix show “Dear White People,” which is described as addressing the “complexities of prejudice that take different forms — whether it’s white or light-skinned privilege, sexism, or homophobia.” The American people are sick and tired of being accused of every failure in non-white communities. Many black Americans are offended by the victimhood mentality. They put up with the definition of a bigot being anyone who disagrees with a person of color but it’s wearing thin. Like sports, Netflix was a place where people went to get away from the deluge of leftism and woke ideology. And like sports, Netflix destroyed itself by buying into it and allowing the customers to have to put up with wokeness.
Another example is the Netflix production “Growing Up Coy” which is described as “A Colorado family is thrust into the international media spotlight when they fight for the rights of their 6-year-old transgender daughter in a landmark civil rights case.”
Proponents of the woke content say that people don’t have to watch these programs if they don’t want to, but most Americans are now used to not having that choice. Progressives eventually force their ideology onto people and Netflix subscribers no longer want to have to go to extra lengths to avoid the crazy world of wokeness. Make no mistake about it, wokeness seems crazy to the average American.
“He’s Expecting,” is another transgender message reinforcing the woke idea that men can have babies. Netflix describes this content as “When a successful ad executive who’s got it all figured out becomes pregnant, he’s forced to confront social inequities he’d never considered before.” Really?
Of course, the company is blaming the subscriber drop and its gloomy financial forecast to things that are out of their control, like competition from other streaming services like YouTube, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and others, and on inflation and, of course, the Russian invasion of Ukraine. You can’t be woke without blaming the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They even tried to pin it on COVID even though COVID should have given them a captured audience.
The main lesson Netflix and other corporations should take from this is Go Woke, Go Broke.
