On Wednesday, Representative Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), was carjacked at gunpoint in Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, as crime continues to skyrocket in major cities across the country thanks in most part to Democrats attacking cops with the Defund the Police movement, many cities doing away with bail, and other stupid so-called progressive “reforms.”
While Philadelphia did not defund the police, they do have a real jackass for a District Attorney, Larry Krasner, funded by George Soros. Thanks to his office’s policies, gun-related crime is up in Philly since 2019, and that was to be expected when Krasner’s primary goal was releasing prisoners instead of prosecuting them.
“Wednesday afternoon, at around 2:45 pm, Congresswoman Scanlon was carjacked at gunpoint in FDR Park following a meeting at that location,” Scanlon’s office said in a statement. “The Congresswoman was physically unharmed. She thanks the Philadelphia Police Department for their swift response and appreciates the efforts of both the Sergeant at Arms in DC and her local police department for coordinating with Philly PD to ensure her continued safety.”
According to WPVI-TV Channel 6 ABC News, the congresswoman’s purse and phone were stolen by her attacker.
Philadelphia police said that two black males aged 20-30 approached Scanlon while she was walking to her vehicle when they ordered her to hand over her keys to her 2017 Acura MDX. One of them hopped into her vehicle while the other drove away in a dark-colored SUV.
Scanlon represents Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District, which includes parts of South Philadelphia.
In 2021, Philadelphia police reported 521 homicides, as of this writing. That is a 14 percent increase when compared to 2020. It’s the city’s highest number of murders since 2007. Shootings have increased 4.4 percent with the number of shooting victims rising 3 percent over the last years.
Philly is experiencing an 80 percent increase in carjackings in 2021, compared to 2020, according to police.
Congresswoman Scanlon isn’t the first Democrat politician to be carjacked in a Democrat-run city recently. Democrat state Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford and her husband were carjacked in Broadview, in the Chicago area, where crime has been a problem for decades but is surging in this year. The couple are lucky they were shot.
“First and foremost, I am thankful that my husband and I are alive and physically unharmed,” Lightford said in a statement. “I am trying to process the trauma of what happened. I want to thank everyone who has offered their love and support. I want to especially thank Mayor Katrina Thompson and the Broadview Police Department for their quick and thorough response.”
Scanlon and Lightford have both supported police reforms Democrat-style after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police in May 2020.
“We have seen too many lives taken and communities devastated by police brutality and racial profiling,” Scanlon tweeted shortly after Floyd’s death. “Action is long overdue. @HouseDemocrats are fighting for REAL reform in our country’s police departments. #JusticeInPolicing.”

Scanlon co-sponsored the Mental Health Justice Act that would place some cops as first responders with mental health specialists, the latter of which would do absolutely nothing to stop a crazed criminal set on harming cops. The bill states its purpose as “To authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to States and political subdivisions of States to hire, employ, train, and dispatch mental health professionals to respond in lieu of law enforcement officers in emergencies involving one or more persons with a mental illness or an intellectual or developmental disability, and for other purposes.”
The federal government has no jurisdiction in states to do any of the things proposed in cities. The Democratic Party seems to create problems in cities around the country only to then act outraged when attention is brought to what they caused, and then they swoop in with legislation to fix the problem without ever admitting they caused it with bad policies in the first place.
