It seems to run in the family.
A former ABC executive producer has now made an accusation against Chris Cuomo alleging that he sexually harassed her at a 2005 work party after he grabbed her butt in front of her husband and co-workers. Believe it or not, Cuomo later called it a “hearty greeting.” That’s like kicking a guy in the cojones and calling it a “rough how do you do.”
On Friday, veteran journalist Shelley Ross, gave details of the June 2005 incident at an Upper West Side bar in a New York Times op-ed.
Ross said that Cuomo sent an email after the incident admitting to her that he was ashamed, but then he tried to explain how his actions were entirely different from a famous actor who was accused of the same thing but to a total stranger on the street.
The journalist said that at the time she was working as an executive producer for an ABC entertainment program, and that she was Cuomo’s actual boss on ABC’s “Primetime Live” just before that.
“I was at the party with my husband, who sat behind me on an ottoman sipping his Diet Coke as I spoke with work friends. When Mr. Cuomo entered the Upper West Side bar, he walked toward me and greeted me with a strong bear hug while lowering one hand to firmly grab and squeeze the cheek of my buttock,” she said.
“’I can do this now that you’re no longer my boss,’” he said to me with a kind of cocky arrogance.
Cuomo then sent Ross an email an hour later with the subject title: “Now that I think of it … I am ashamed.” At least he did that. Am I right? His brother lied about his own sexual harassment allegations, tried to blame the victims, threatened victims, and tried to get his CNN anchor brother to help him get out of trouble. One sexual harasser helping another.
The Fake News anchor, Fredo if you will, compared his actions to “Heathers” actor Christian Slater, who got arrested a month prior for sexually harassing a woman on a New York City street after grabbing her rear end.
“Though my hearty greeting was a function of being glad to see you … Christian Slater got arrested for a (kind of) similar act (though borne of an alleged negative intent, unlike my own) … and as a husband I can empathize with not liking to see my wife patted as such,” Cuomo wrote.
Don’t forget that Chris Cuomo is a licensed attorney. His email came off like a legal document: “Though my hearty greeting… [wink wink, nudge nudge].
“So pass along my apology to your very good and noble husband … and I apologize to you as well, for ever putting you in such a position.
“Next time, I will remember the lesson, no matter how happy I am to see you.”
What a scumbag. He used his apology to set up a legal response if it ever went to court to show how out of character it was for him and how sorry and ashamed he was over the whole thing. He should be ashamed of being a putz who added insult to injury with that email. The worst part is he thought Ross was just a dumb woman who would fall for it.
In her op-ed, Ross pondered if Cuomo said he was ashamed over his actions or because her husband saw the whole thing? She acknowledged she realized he tried to “legally differentiate” between his own behavior and what the actor Slater did.
“Mr. Cuomo may say this is a sincere apology. I’ve always seen it as an attempt to provide himself with legal and moral coverage to evade accountability,” Ross said. See what I mean? He thought she was too stupid to see through it.
“I never thought that Mr. Cuomo’s behavior was sexual in nature. Whether or not he understood it at the time, his form of sexual harassment was a hostile act meant to diminish and belittle his female former boss in front of the staff.”
Cuomo said in a statement regarding the allegations, “As Shelley acknowledges, our interaction was not sexual in nature. It happened 16 years ago in a public setting when she was a top executive at ABC. I apologized to her then, and I meant it.” I think he meant it to get out of trouble and nothing more. Sure, he may have felt stupid about what he did, but only because she didn’t brush it off and he did it not realizing her husband was right there.
Again, with the legal speak, “As Shelley acknowledges…” I repeat, what a scumbag.
Notice how the Fake News anchor tries to dumb down what he did and yet didn’t he have Michael Avenatti, the creepy porn lawyer on his show a bazillion times to trash Donald Trump?
Ross said she doesn’t want Chris Cuomo to lose his job like his brother did over sexual harassment accusations, but she believes he needs to be held accountable for how he got involved with his brother, the governor, in his sexual harassment scandal.
Cuomo’s former boss also blasted CNN, saying she’s not at all certain if the network is even “interested in accountability.”
“If Mr. Cuomo and CNN management don’t think he crossed a serious line, one that warrants consequences, I know he crossed a line with me,” Ross said.
