Chinese Dissident Who Exposed Forced Abortion in China To Speak at RNC

The Chinese human rights lawyer speaking tonight at the RNC is known for exposing the brutal forced abortion and sterilization practices under the Chinese Communist Party before he made a daring escape to the United States.

Chen Guangchen – otherwise known as “the barefoot lawyer” – has been scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention this evening.

Guangchen is known as a human rights advocate for his work in China exposing the forced abortion and sterilization practices of the Chinese government in their effort to enforce their one-child policy.

A self-taught lawyer, blinded by a fever at a young age, Guangchen dedicated his life to advocating for the rights of Chinese citizens, specifically the disabled, the poor, and other disenfranchised groups. In 2005, his work led him to file a class-action lawsuit against Chinese authorities for their practice of forced abortions and sterilizations.

He spent more than four years in prison and two years under house arrest for his work before he escaped to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing in 2012. He was granted asylum by the United States the same year, and now lives here in the States with his family.

Guangchen has since written a book titled “The Barefoot Lawyer: A Blind Man’s Fight for Justice and Freedom in China”, recounting his experiences.

President Trump’s past four years have been marked by strong pro-life policies and a heavy-handed approach to relations with China. Guangchen’s speech has the unique potential to combine pro-life policy with how the U.S. might respond to Chinese human rights violations.

Since the beginning of China’s one-child policy in 1979, over three hundred and sixty million forced abortions have been carried out by the government in enforcement of that law.

As if matters couldn’t be worse, recent reports have been exposing China’s practice of controlling minority populations through the use of IUDs, abortions, and sterilizations. This practice was recently condemned by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo:

“We call on the Chinese Communist Party to immediately end these horrific practices,” he said in a June statement.

China’s foreign minister, however, has defended his nation, claiming that the reports of such horrific acts against minorities at the hands of the Chinese government are “fabricated” and “fake news”.

Guangchen will not be the only one representing the atrocities of abortion during the course of the RNC. Abby Johnson – former Planned Parenthood director, now fierce pro-life advocate – spoke at the RNC last night, representing the pro-life position of the Trump administration.

In her speech, Johnson highlighted the history of Planned Parenthood, which is eerily similar to the current Chinese Communist Party practice of forcing abortions on minority groups:

“Margaret Sanger was a racist who believed in eugenics. Her goal, when founding Planned Parenthood, was to eradicate the minority population. Today, almost eighty percent of Planned Parenthood abortion facilities are strategically located in minority neighborhoods, and every year Planned Parenthood celebrates its racist roots by presenting the Margaret Sanger award.”

Tonight will be the third of four nights scheduled for the 2020 Republican National Convention.
