Academy Announces ‘Disciplinary Proceedings’ Against Will Smith For the Slap Heard Around the World, ‘Expulsion’ On the List of Sanctions

On Wednesday, the Academy announced “disciplinary proceedings” have begun against the slapper Will Smith, getting the point across that Smith was asked to leave the Oscars ceremony Sunday night after he assaulted Chris Rock on stage during a live television event and he didn’t.

Besides denouncing Smith’s assault, the Academy apologized to Chris Rock about what happened.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy released a statement that said, “The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.”

The board will convene on April 18 to determine the appropriate disciplinary action that may include “suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted by the Bylaws and Standards of Conduct,” and that Smith will be given the chance to defend himself through writing.

Smith not only walked on stage and assaulted Rock, but he went back to his seat and proceeded to shout f-bombs at the comedian, then accepted the Best Actor award almost a half hour later. He then had the gall to condone what he did to Chris Rock during his acceptance speech by saying the character he portrayed in the movie was all about protecting his family, and then said, “love will make you do crazy things.” He then attended an Oscars party and danced and sang with his bald wife while showing off his award.

Did you know that lunatic progressives believe Chris Rock’s joke about Jada Pinkett Smith was an “act of violence?” No, really.

According to the Academy, Smith was asked to leave the ceremony but refused.

The Academy gave a formal apology to Chris Rock.

“Mr. Rock, we apologize to you for what you experienced on our stage and thank you for your resilience in that moment,” the Academy said. “We also apologize to our nominees, guests and viewers for what transpired during what should have been a celebratory event.”

“Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated. While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently,” it concluded.

“The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.

Consistent with the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, as well as California law, Mr. Smith is being provided at least 15 days’ notice of a vote regarding his violations and sanctions, and the opportunity to be heard beforehand by means of a written response. At the next board meeting on April 18, the Academy may take any disciplinary action, which may include suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted by the Bylaws and Standards of Conduct.

Mr. Smith’s actions at the 94th Oscars were a deeply shocking, traumatic event to witness in-person and on television. Mr. Rock, we apologize to you for what you experienced on our stage and thank you for your resilience in that moment. We also apologize to our nominees, guests and viewers for what transpired during what should have been a celebratory event.

Smith posted an apology on Instagram on Monday, saying his behavior was “inexcusable.” It took him a day to realize that? Well, he had to get all that partying done first, right?

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” he said.

Does this look like a guy who is really sorry about his violent behavior only hours later?

I think when considering a punishment; instead of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, the Academy should pretend it was any member of the Trump family. We would never hear from Will Smith again, and that would be just fine.
