In this political climate, everything has become political, even sports. It seems the days of meeting up with friends and watching a sports game are over. When the 2019/2020 basketball season resumed after a COVID 19 break, the franchise allowed politics to be a huge part of playoffs. The playoff courts have Black Lives Matter down each side of the court and players can have certain sayings on their jerseys like “I can’t breathe”, “Peace”, and “Power to the People”.
It’s unfortunate the franchise allowed politics to creep in because it has even caused conflict on the court between players. This happened last week.
“LA Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell and Dallas Mavericks Slovenian star Luka Doncic got into a scuffle last night that ended with Harrell calling Doncic a ‘b***h a*s white boy,’” Outkick columnist Gary Sheffield Jr. wrote. “The solution here is simple, even if many won’t like it: the NBA has to suspend Montrezl Harrell and send a message that race-based derogatory comments like his on the basketball court won’t be tolerated. The NBA has already set this precedent with gay slurs on the court, why not with racial-based insults as well?”
“Montrezl Harrell’s comments have already spawned a million ‘If the races were reversed’ conversations on social media and there is no doubt that if Luka had referred to Montrezl Harrell as a ‘b**** a** black boy,’ that the social media condemnation would have rained down from the heavens on Luka,” Sheffield added. “In fact, Luka would probably be suspended for the remainder of the season. He would be crushed, a social pariah in all of sports.”
Days later Kings sports announcer was dubbed racist when he tweeted, “All Lives Matter”. He ended up resigning from his position while little happened to Harrell for his actual racist comment.
Thursday morning they considered boycotting the rest of the season after the Jacob Blake shooting. When the teams had a meeting the Lakers and the Clippers seemed to be the only two teams wanting to boycott. LeBron James even stormed out of the meeting while the two teams followed him. LeBron James said in the meeting he wants the team owners to be more involved and take action.
But here’s the deal. The basketball franchise is not supposed to be about politics. Basketball players don’t get paid to be politicians or activists. If they chose to do that it should be in their own time. Not at the expense of the NBA franchise.
So far this is the ending result of the meeting today.
“NBA playoff games for today will not be played as scheduled. We are hopeful to resume games either Friday or Saturday. There is a video conference call meeting scheduled later this afternoon between a group of NBA players and team governors representing the 13 teams in Orlando, along with representatives from the National Basketball Players Association and the league office and NBA Labor Relations Committee Chairman Michael Jordan, to discuss next steps.”
David Hookstead tried to buy an NBA jersey that says FreeHongKong but he was told he could not buy one. Obviously that is because the NBA is as thick as thieves with the Chinese, so much so that Hunter Biden is getting jealous.
Then Hookstead asked if he can get one that says “Kill Cops.” but he was told that they weren’t set up for spaces in the wording but the attendant told him he could get an NBA uniform that says “KillCops” or “F*^KPolice” on it. The NBA now says that you can no longer order shirts with those sayings.
I’m on the phone with the NBA store right now. Sales rep says I can’t buy a FreeHongKong jersey, but I can buy a KillCops jersey if I want one.
Senator Josh Hawley, R-Missouri engaged with ESPN and the NBA over inquiries about the Basketball League’s support of the Chinese Communist Party’s agenda by refusing to equally support different points of view about the Government in China, specifically those among the people in Hong Kong.
“Today Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) is sending a letter to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver blasting the league’s apparent decision to strictly limit messages players can wear on their jerseys to a few pre-approved, social justice slogans while censoring support for law enforcement officers or the military and any criticism of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Senator Hawley writes that, as the NBA is now sanctioning political messages, they must stand up for American values and make clear where they stand on China’s human rights abuses,” Hawley’s office said.
According to a press release, Hawley wrote in the letter to Silver, ” “The truth is that your decisions about which messages to allow and which to censor – much like the censorship decisions of the CCP – are themselves statements about your association’s values. If I am right – if the NBA is more committed to promoting the CCP’s interests than to celebrating its home nation – your fans deserve to know that is your view.”
Hawley has been stirring up the pot over his concerns, and Friday got an “FU” from ESPN reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski, in response to Hawley’s press release.
Wojnarowski apologized for being “disrespectful”, but did not address any of the concerns Hawley’s or the people Hawley represents, nor did he touch upon the disastrous optics and terrible PR of players and owners supporting brutal and violent Communism.
LeBron James, who posted a rebuke to supporters of Hong Kong liberty fighters in 2019, is one representative of the NBA who has been very vocal about his support of the Chinese Communist Party, which is greatly disturbing to many sports fans who prefer to keep politics out of the sport.
I'd like to ask for LeBron James, the same thing, and the Solomon or Spinx asking, why don't @ESPNNBA
Maybe it's not surprising that The King and The Emperor share similar views. It's just sad to think of how many basketball players are tortured in Xinjiang concentration camps or facing bullets in the frontline of Hong Kong. Authoritarianism is our common enemy.#LeBronJamespic.twitter.com/KPfmCjKvbU
However, having the sports league tied together with Communists has not escaped the scrutiny of many fans.
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong Now that Hunter Biden client's Communist China has now officially crushed Democracy and human freedom. *I'm sure that @KingJames, @NBA and @Nike will smear them as Racist, in the same way they smear all Americans. https://t.co/hJTiccjMvM
In the letter, Hawley wrote, “The league’s new policy suggests a newfound commitment to enhanced employee
expression. But that free expression appears to stop at the edge of your corporate sponsors’ sensibilities. And for woke capital today, profits from the Chinese market are more popular than patriotism.
The truth is that your decisions about which messages to allow and which to censor – much like the censorship decisions of the CCP – are themselves statements about your association’s values.”
The NBA has been pushing a leftist Social Justice message for some time, influencing common culture with Cultural Marxism.
In this article from 5 years ago, a player is shown introducing his anti-police statements to the game and influencing other players.
A little more than five years ago, our @busyxb wrote about sports figures speaking out on social justice, focusing the "I can't breathe" gear worn by NBA players. It's as relevant now as it ever was. https://t.co/Ra5MErt14f
We may just be beginning to see what Communism and Social Justice have in common and how the NBA and other American institutions have been using their resources to influence the media to indoctrinate America.
Remember when many people boycotted the NFL when players started taking a knee, well I guess that hasn’t discouraged the NBA from allowing even more political statements being made during game time.
From NBA News
One of the central arguments against restarting the NBA season was the momentum social justice reform had gained in the United States. Playing basketball would theoretically provide a distraction for a nation whose focus should be on combatting both systemic racism and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and a number of players were reportedly uneasy about being part of such a distraction. Were the NBA to resume play under the circumstances, it would have to use its platform in the name of social change in order to satisfy those players. Fortunately, the NBA has taken significant steps in that arena.
On Saturday, it was reported that players will be able to include social justice messages on the backs of their jerseys at Disney. That decision, while powerful, puts the onus on players. The league itself needed to send a message of solidarity, and is doing so with its latest decision. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Zach Lowe and Ramona Shelburne, the league plans to paint “Black Lives Matter” on both sidelines on all three of the courts they will be using at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
In this highly polarized time in America, most people are looking for an outlet. Watching sports could be an opportunity to bring people together and unite us in our love of sports. But the NBA and their players have just robbed us of that opportunity.
It’s shameful that we can’t even just watch sports together and enjoy the game. Now, even that will be tainted with unpleasant differences of opinion. Driving the divide in America even deeper.
After the NBA announced Thursday they will be returning next month several NBA players announced Friday they may sit the rest of the season out.
According to heavy.,
Avery Bradley and Dwight Howard were among the players to speak up in Friday’s galvanizing conference call about the season restarting with more than 80 other players, including NBPA Vice President Kyrie Irving, NBPA president Chris Paul, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony.
On Fridays call Irving said, “I’m not with the systematic racism and the bull- Something smells a little fishy. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are targeted as black men every day we wake up.”
Kyrie Irving told NBA players on call Friday, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA@Stadium: “I don’t support going into Orlando. I’m not with the systematic racism and the bullshit. Something smells a little fishy.”
Howard voiced thinks that getting the games started again will become a distraction from the issues the country is facing through the protests against police brutality and racism in policing following the death of George Floyd.
Another NBA player, Adrian Wojnarowski: said “Once we start playing basketball again, the news will turn from systemic racism to ‘who did what’ in the game last night. It’s a crucial time for us to be able to play and blend that to impact what’s happening in our communities.”
But LeBron James seems to be on a different page than his teammates. And why wouldn’t he be, his team was favored to be in the championship this year.
LeBron James did not join the player’s call on Friday.
According to a separate article by heavy., The Atheltic’s Sam Amick, says James believes that playing won’t affect his ability to help:
So with so many fellow players focused on those very issues, and wondering aloud whether the magnitude of this Black Lives Matter moment means they might be better off making a difference at home, why wouldn’t he join this particular chat that was led by his old co-star who is now a vice president for the National Basketball Players Association, the Brooklyn Nets’ Kyrie Irving?
Because sources say James, whose Lakers have as good a chance at the title as any of the 22 teams invited to Walt Disney World, believes playing in Orlando won’t deter his ability to continue inspiring change.
He wants to keep making his mark off the court. He wants to play basketball. And as has always been the case, he clearly believes he can do both at the same time.
Could this drive fans away from the NBA?
There are already millions of people boycotting businesses like Starbucks, Amazon, and L’oreal for not remaining neutral in these escalated times.
Sports have always been a great unifier. It’s a shame they don’t see that. Instead, they are allowing the devil to use them as another tool to divide the country.
Several NBA teams are considering moving away from the title “team owner,” because some are uncomfortable using the term in a majority black league. Several teams are now employing different terms to call team owners to avoid the “racially insensitive” term of “owner,” TMZ reports. Last year, the topic was raised on LeBron James’ talk […]
Several teams are now employing different terms to call team owners to avoid the “racially insensitive” term of “owner,” TMZ reports.
Last year, the topic was raised on LeBron James’ talk show, The Shop, where Warriors forward Draymond Green bristled at the term.
“You shouldn’t say owner,” Green said at the time. Green added that owners should be called CEOs or majority shareholder, or some other term because it was insensitive to say a white man owns the labor of black men.
Since then, at least two teams have moved away from “owner.”
Steve Ballmer, owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, is now called the “Chairman” of the team instead of the owner. And the Philadelphia 76ers now have “managing partners” instead of owners. Co-owners are called “limited partners.”
This is a victim mentality or poor perception of oneself and has nothing to do with a persons title or position in a company. It’s obvious that basketball players are not the property of the basketball team or organization. They are employees that entered into a contract to do a certain job for millions of dollars at their FREE WILL. They can walk away if they really want to. But if you think they “own” you, then that’s just a perception you are creating in your mind to drive a certain narrative. It’s like they are saying, I may work for you but you don’t own me, let’s make that clear. Well, in reality, that is clear. People are not the property of another person. There are employer-employee relationships that are apart of the business world. And if you want a different position you have the opportunity to work for that other position and attain it if you are the best candidate for the position.
We reported last week after President Joe Biden and progressive leftists of the Woke Supremacy supported by the Fake News industry spread vulgar lies about the new election integrity law in Georgia claiming the bill has voter suppression throughout and that it disproportionately impacts people of color, and that in turn Major League Baseball (MLB) commissioner Ron Manfred cowered to the radical leftists and moved the All-Star Game out of Atlanta.
Atlanta is 51% black, and in the name of racial justice, the MLB’s action will cost the surrounding Atlanta area about $100 million in revenues. The MLB has moved the game to Denver, Colorada, a city that is only 9% black. Colorado has even stricter election laws than Georgia. As dumb a decision as this was, no one should be scratching their heads wondering how this could have happened.
It is not a mystery to anyone with a triple-digit IQ that over the last few years the top officials at MLB, the National Football League (NLF), and the National Basketball Association (NBA), have decided to go Woke and alienate a big chunk of their paying audience by giving in to the cries for social justice and cowering to the leftist Woke Supremacy.
Red Sox President Sam Kennedy last year said, “Silence in the face of injustice is unacceptable,” after the death of George Floyd. Kennedy has made a commitment for Social Justice, Equity & Inclusion under the banner of Black Lives Matter where they have created Employee Resource Groups and Race-based roundtables, a bias audit on HR policies and practices, enhanced education and training for employees, players, and coaching staff related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and more. A lot more. Other teams have done similar things.
For a long time now, the sports network ESPN has seen their ratings plummet after going Woke. In June 2020, the Woke sports network saw the lowest ratings it has ever had in 41 years, their entire existence. It’s hard to fathom that a sports network became more ideologically leftist than CNN and the left-wing conspiracy network MNBC combined, but it did. In some of their programming, they completely abandoned sports coverage. My point is the result of going Woke is they are going broke as viewers who up to that point were willing to watch ESPN during the COVID pandemic since there was limited sports activity everywhere in the world, they have now abandoned the network. Needless to say, the network went into panic mode. I’m talking full-on crisis mode level awfulness.
And now the sports business world may also come to regret their decisions to go Woke because they too are alienating large numbers of fans. People are bombarded with left-wing political crap day in and day out, and it is in every facet of their lives. You can’t go to school, go to work, shop online, or do most of anything else without being hit in the face with left-wing politics these days. Social media is the playground of the Woke Supremacy, where social justice warriors have a rigged system created by the leftist tech tyrants.
People loved sports because none of the leftist gobbledygook was found there. Instead of constantly being told America is evil and unfair and that our society is systemically racist and all the other nonsense of mentally ill racial agitators, sports was the one place left where God-given talent and hard work won the day. It was the last place in America with an even playing field, and that attracts Americans. And now the Left ruined sports too, the impact of which is already being felt.
After the MLB’s decision to move the All-Star Game to Colorado, Atlanta Braves fans are already asking for refunds on season tickets. In 2020, all the major sports leagues saw their TV ratings spiral down. You can’t really blame COVID totally for this because when regular television shows were affected by the pandemic lockdowns and there were more people staying home than ever before, sports viewership should have risen, but instead, it went the other way.
Sports leagues and their networks thought they had the fans locked up as a captive audience and that they could throw at them whatever political garbage they wanted because they were hooked on sports. They had to sit there and take it. Until they no longer did.
I don’t think sports owners and the corporate folks ever grasped the level of anger and disgust that watching spoiled millionaire athletes kneel for our National Anthem yet stand for the Black Anthem while disrespecting the American flag and trashing law enforcement did to their fanbase.
In 2020, during the NFL regular season, viewership dropped 7% from the previous year. That’s the lowest average audience since 2017. MLB’s World Series TV ratings dropped 36% from 2019. The NBA didn’t do much better with the viewership during the NBA finals between the LA Lakers and the Miami Heat, where viewership dropped from 15.12 million the year before down to only 6.4 million. That’s more than half.
These trends show that fans will not tolerate professional sports being ruined by politics, and they will find entertainment elsewhere. That means they take their money elsewhere as well.
Ratings mean revenues and when ratings drop, so do the revenues. The question is are the corporate businesspeople of the professional sports world willing to continue the trend of losing money all to kiss the rear end of the Work Supremacy or will they learn that to stay alive you have to give the consumers what they want?
By now you have probably heard that Major League Baseball (MLB) moved the All-Star Game out of Atlanta. MLB cowered like a frightened soy boy to a radical lunatic Democrat operative when it decided to join the Woke Supremacy in claiming the reason for its decision was that the new Georgia election integrity law was racist. Of course, the argument that the new law is racist is not real, but the fear of the crazy person pushing them to do it is.
As predicted by anyone who has kept up with Georgia politics, the lying miscreant applying behind-the-scenes pressure was failed Georgia lunatic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, the same woman who still refuses to concede her race against current Governor Brian Kemp.
On Wednesday evening, Fox News confirmed that Abrams was the culprit behind the MLB Commissioner’s decision.
“Major League Baseball (MLB) commissioner Robert Manfred decided to move the All-Star Game on his own after holding extensive discussions with voting rights groups associated with NBA loudmouth Lebron James, Stacey Abrams, and racist loudmouth Al not so Sharpton,” according to sources familiar with the situation.
“Abrams and Sharpton told the commissioner players would boycott the game if not. Sources say that Abrams’ current stance, that she is disappointed about the Georgia boycott, is suspect as she was a key player in the decision,” the report continued. “James has publicly supported the Georgia boycott,” adding to the commissioner’s pressure.
In other words, Abrams lied about being “disappointed” over the boycott when she was instrumental in the threats made to the MLB commissioner.
Threats like that are called extortion, a felony, and I wonder if the Georgia Attorney General will investigate?
“Abrams’ group and Sharpton also urged the commissioner to support other issues, including voter drives and H.R. 1, the For the People Act — sweeping election reform that recently passed the House,” the Fox report continued.
Apparently, Abrams was not the only one who lied here. When the MLB issued its statement, it appears that it lied to baseball fans and the players about the reasons behind its decision.
“Over the last week, we have engaged in thoughtful conversations with Clubs, former and current players, the Players Association, and the Players Alliance, among others, to listen to their views,” the statement read. No mention of LeBron James, Al Sharpton, or Stacey Abrams.
Those “among others” are radical leftist members of various levels within the Woke Supremacy who seem to be the actual force behind the MLB’s decision to move the game out of Atlanta, a decision that cost small businesses and the state of Georgia about $100 million in revenue.
MLB has since moved the game to blue-state Colorado, which has even stricter voting laws than Georgia. They moved the All-Star Game out of Atlanta, a city that is 51 percent black to Denver, a city that is about 91 percent white because they said Georgia’s new voting law is racist. And yet Colorado’s voting laws, at least in the Woke Supremacy’s mind, are worse than Georgia’s.
For example, Georgia has 17 days of in-person early voting, while Colorado only has 15. Colorado also has a photo ID requirement to vote in person. Colorado has the exact same rule that campaign workers may not give anything to voters standing in line that Georgia has.
Knowing all of this, does the MLB’s move make any sense at all?
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms on Tuesday did her due diligence for the Supremacy and issued an Administrative Order that fights Georgia’s election integrity law, which she is not allowed to do. What is it with Democrats overstepping their authority, and what is it with the media never reporting on it?
Bottoms’ Administrative Order declares that the election integrity measures signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp make changes that “include empowering officials to take over local election boards, limiting the use of ballot drop boxes, and imposing new voter identification requirements and limitations for the use of absentee ballots.”
Well, I’ve got news for the mayor. The Constitution’s Article I, Section 4, gives state legislatures sole authority over election laws. Anything that Bottoms was used to at the local level for federal elections can be changed by the legislature. That’s how it works.
Bottoms also made the same old argument that “voting restrictions will disproportionately impact residents in cities and counties with high-density populations, including the City of Atlanta, and will impose barriers to their ability to vote.” She could have shortened it to the law is racist.
These are the same Democrats who ignore, “…shall not be infringed,” when it comes to the Second Amendment and they don’t give a damn about a disproportionate impact on residents in cities when it comes to protecting themselves with a firearm.
Georgia law prohibits cities from creating a “sanctuary policy,” yet in 2019 Bottoms signed an administrative order blocking the city jail from holding US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) detainees.
In short, Democrats have selective outrage.
And the data is not on the mayor’s side with her argument about the election integrity law impacting residents in cities and counties – read black voters – because multiple studies show that voter ID laws do not and have not suppressed any voter registrations or voter turnout. Bottoms subscribes to the racist argument that black people are too stupid to learn how to get an ID even though she is black herself and has ID. The mayor also cannot lie about black voters being too poor to get an ID because voter IDs in Georgia are free, paid for by other people’s money if you qualify. I would venture to guess that it’s probably higher than 98 percent of black people who live in Georgia already have ID. Otherwise, they could not function in society today. And it’s incredibly insulting to claim otherwise, even for political reasons.
President Joe Biden, Stacey Abrams, and other members of the Democrat Woke Supremacy have referred to the Georgia election integrity law as “Jim Crow” infuriating Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, causing him to go public and fight back at such an egregious accusation.
“There is nothing ‘Jim Crow’ about requiring a photo or state-issued ID to vote by absentee ballot – every Georgia voter must already do so when voting in-person,” Kemp said in a statement to The Hill.
“President Biden, the left, and the national media are determined to destroy the sanctity and security of the ballot box,” Kemp said, adding, “It is obvious that neither President Biden nor his handlers have actually read” the Georgia law. Did anyone really expect them to read it?
On Saturday, during the “Final Four Show”, former NBA star and “Inside the NBA” analyst Charles Barkley said that politicians intentionally fuel racial division in order to “keep their grasp on money and power,” and that the system is designed to cultivate hatred and to “scramble the middle class.”
During CBS’s coverage of Saturday’s March Madness games, Barkey said, “Man, I think most white people and black people are great people.” He added, “I really believe that in my heart.”
Amen to that! How weird is it in 2021 to hear a former basketball great say something like that?
Barkley didn’t stop there as he continued to argue that our political system is set up to protect the power and wealth of the people we elect in government.
“But I think our system is set up where our politicians, whether they’re Republicans or Democrats, make us not like each other, so they can keep their grasp [on] money and power,” Barkley said.
“They divide and conquer,” Barkley said, adding that people are “stupid” to follow politicians who create issues in communities they “don’t live in.”
Barkley is spot on with his analysis. In today’s day and age, instead of politicians saying “Hey vote for me because I’m gonna do this in that” they say “Don’t vote for that guy because he’s evil and he hates you.” Democrats do this all the time because they can run on things they believe in so they want to make their voters angry at their opponent. That’s on Page 1 of the Big Book of Democrat Lies. In all fairness, some RINOs do the same thing but usually against Republicans who are trying to unseat them in a primary.
“I truly believe in my heart most white people and black people are awesome people,” he said. “But we are so stupid following our politicians, whether they are Republicans or Democrats, and their only job is, ‘Hey, let’s make these people not like each other. We don’t live in their neighborhoods. [We’ve] all got money. Let’s make the whites and blacks not like each other; let’s make rich people and poor people not like each other; let’s scramble the middle class.’”
“I truly believe that in my heart,” Barkley concluded.
True story. I was once out with friends at the River Deck Cafe, a club in Manayunk, Philadelphia, where Philly sports figures were known to frequent. I was standing talking to a friend in a crowded room in front of one of the bars when I got knocked into from behind and my beer spilled on the floor. I quickly turned around and there was a look of shock on the face of Charles Barkley. He said, “I’m really sorry about that. I was shoved myself.” I shook his hand because who wouldn’t, right? He smiled as he walked toward the bar and asked, “What were you drinking.” I said, “Coors Light.” He made a face and said, “Thanks for going easy on my wallet,” and then we both laughed. Charles caught a lot of crap by the Philly media, but he was a really decent, good man in person.
This isn’t the first time Barkley has made comments that are the antithesis of the political agenda of Woke sports leagues like the NBA. In September last year, Barkley did not speak the same divisive racial nonsense over the death of Breonna Taylor that many others did at the time, saying that even though the case was tragic, it didn’t belong in the same category as the death of George Floyd.
“It’s just bad the young lady lost her life, but we do have to take into account that her boyfriend did shoot at the cops and shot a cop,” Barkley said. “So, like I said, even though I’m really sorry she lost her life, I don’t think we can just put this in the same situation as George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery,” Barkley said.
Barkley also ripped the “fools on TV” who were fighting for the “defund the police” movement, saying that black people need police “when we have crime in our neighborhoods.”
I hope he doesn’t get canceled, because we need the voice of reason if we’re ever going to stop the Marxist onslaught of Cancel Culture.
