There is a police shortage across the country, mainly in Democrat-run cities, and I don’t think anyone is sitting around scratching their head wondering why.
After radical leftist movements like Abolish the Police and Defund the Police along with non-stop anti-police reporting by the mainstream news media and Democrat politicians throwing police under the bus and watching city councils making rules that block police from being able to do their jobs safely, it’s no wonder cops are reacting by leaving the job and recruitment drives fizzling out.
You have to be a special kind of citizen in the first place to want to become a police officer and serve communities. But the war on cops across the country has taken its toll enough to override the calling for many of those potential recruits.
In Los Angeles, after the city council cut $150 million from the LAPD’s budget, crime skyrocketed. Crime got so bad that City Council voted to increase police funding by $36 million, even though the department asked for $111 million to do their jobs effectively.
The Philadelphia Police Department is short nearly 270 officers, and that number is expected to increase in the near future.
“From Jan. 1 through Thursday, 79 Philadelphia officers have been accepted into the city’s Deferred Retirement Option Program, meaning they intend to retire within four years, according to Mayor Jim Kenney’s office,” (the People’s Republic of) Philadelphia Inquirer reported. “During the same time period last year, just 13 officers had been accepted into the program, the office said.”
“It’s the perfect storm. We are anticipating that the department is going to be understaffed by several hundred members because hundreds of guys are either retiring or taking other jobs and leaving the department,” Mike Neilon, spokesperson for the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police, told the outlet.
New Jersey just across the river is facing a “recruiting crisis,” says Pat Colligan, president of the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association.
Colligan pointed out that recent high-profile police-related deaths such as George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, and others have had a negative impact on police recruitment.
“Every action has a reaction. When you vilify every police officer for every bad police officer’s decision, [people] don’t want to take this job anymore,” Colligan said. “It’s been a very trying and difficult time to put on the badge every day.”
Colligan also noted that the “quality has really diminished in the last few years,” meaning the police department no longer has the luxury of weeding through recruits to pick the best ones, and that could spell more tragic police encounters in the future.
There is also the fact that many suspects today resist arrest and cause their own fatality as officers are trying to protect themselves or others from a violent response when the cops are attempting to make an arrest, but the angry Woke mob today along with a Fake News media and their obligatory trash reporting of cops even when police acted accordingly makes it appear that all cops are bad. That false perception of police keeps good men and women away from the job.
Colonel Patrick Callahan, Acting Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, said they received a “historically low” number of applications this year. In the past, they usually took in between 15,000 to 20,000 applications, while this year they only got 2,023 qualified applicants as of Thursday, NJ.com reported.
“The atmosphere with police work right now is people just don’t want to apply,” according to the New Jersey State Fraternal Order of Police Robert Fox.
Can anyone blame them? And what about the people in neighborhoods that need police protection? I have convinced many of those folks of the lie that cops are hunting down black men. So they hate the cops until they need one. That’s not a great recipe for police-community relations.
Baltimore, the city where mayors and district attorneys throw their cops under the bus, is also suffering from “recruitment and retention issues,” according to the Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3, so much so that they’re talking about closing police districts. And this is going on while crime is skyrocketing thanks to stupid decisions by Democrat politicians who passed asinine legislation to defund police just because they had no way to answer why their communities are nothing but rot. It appears that Democrats have been trashing police just to score political points with the progressive Woke Supremacy and that’s despicable.
“Our Patrol numbers are now below 700 officers which is about 300-400 below what is needed,” the Baltimore FOP as reported by WBFF-TV. “This creates huge safety issues for our officers and for the citizens of Baltimore.”
Albany, NY Police Chief Michael Persley said we should meet their shortage of cops with higher incentives to bring in new recruits. You could offer them a Mercedes and you won’t get people stupid enough to join the force today after the way the Democrat politicians are treating the men and women of law enforcement. It’s a very tough job, even without the constant scapegoating and trashing they take.
And where would we be without blaming COVID? Officials have blamed the pandemic for police shortages, as police academy classes were suspended.
“And you got to remember that once you go into the academy, it takes you about 10 months to finish. So, we’re not looking at putting any boots on the ground until maybe next Spring,” John McNesby, President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 told WPVI-TV.
Let’s hope communities can hold out that long.
At the same time that The Squad wants to defund police and take away the guns of law-abiding citizens used for protection, they are spending money on armed guards to keep them safe. But not all socialists believe in two sets of rules for the elite and the great unwashed. It’s just in this case that they do. I guess guns are only required in the hands or under the control of the privileged class.
FEC reports show that New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley, and Missouri Rep. Cori Bush spent thousands of dollars to hire people with guns to keep them safe, which is odd since liberals say that guns won’t keep you safe. Neither will police officers who are defunded. But none of the anti-gun legislation is aimed at armed felons but will affect law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves.
From The Daily Caller
“Affluent white communities already live in a world where they choose to fund youth, health, housing etc more than they fund police,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
- In January, February, and March of 2021, Ocasio-Cortez spent $3,000 per month on a security consultant based out of Brooklyn, New York. Records show she spent a total of $9,000 for 3 months of security consulting from this one company.
- On Jan. 25, 2021, Ocasio-Cortez spent $24,279.13 on “security.”
- On Jan. 19, 2021, she spent $3,986.60 on “security services.”
- On Feb. 2., Ocasio-Cortez spent $849.22 on “security services.”
- On Feb. 25, Ocasio-Cortez spent $1552.50 at 24 & 7 Security & Investigation, Inc., which her office said was for a “security detail in Houston.”
That’s close to $40,000 for armed security for just one member of the squad. The cumulative total would be much higher. But aren’t they scared of being that close to guns?: Look how scared AOC claimed the Washington riot was to her and she wasn’t even in the same building although she initially claimed she was. She was calledm out onn that lie by my representative, Nancy Mace.
Omar, who also supports defunding the police, spent $3,103.61 on her own security in her state of Minnesota, according to her April Quarterly 2021 financial report:
- On Jan. 20, 2021, Omar spent $66.97 on “Security Services.”
- On Jan. 29, 2021, Ilhan Omar spent $202.70 on Security “Services.”
- On Feb. 19, 2021, Ilhan Omar spent $66.97 on “Security Services.”
- On Feb. 26, 2021, Omar spent $2,700 on “Security Services.”
- On March 16, 2021, Ilhan Omar spent $66.97 on “Security Services.”
Pressley, another avid supporter of defunding the police, spent $4,186.75 on “Security Services,” according to her April Quarterly 2021 financial report:
- On Jan. 26, 2021, Pressley spent $1,292.00 while in her home state.
- On Jan. 27, 2021, Pressley spent $1,267.50 for security in Alexandria, Virginia.
- On March 4, 2021, Pressley spent $675.25 in ADT security, which is based in Boca Raton, Florida.
- On March 9, 2021, Pressley spent $252.00 while in her home state.
- On March 19, 2021, Pressley spent $700.00 for a security company in Washington D.C. called LGC Security LLC.
Cori Bush, a freshman Democrat who has pushed to defund the police, spent over $30,000 on her own security, according to her April Quarterly 2021 financial report.
- On Jan. 18, 2021, Bush spent $1,060.00 on security from Whole Armor Executive Protection in Bowie, Maryland.
- On Jan. 21, 2021, Bush spent $5,000 on security from Nathaniel Davis, Jr in her home state.
- On Jan. 25, 2021, Bush spent $530.00 on security from Nathaniel Davis in Palo Alto, Calif.
- On Feb. 17, 2021, Bush spent $7,743.75 on security from RS&T Security Counseling LLC in New York City.
- On Feb. 25, 2021, Bush spent $5,000 on security from Sandler, Reiff, Lamb, Rosenstein & Birk in Washington DC.
- On Feb. 26, 2021, Bush spent $5,812.00 on security from RS&T Security Counseling, LLC in NYC.
- On March 15, 2021, Bush spent $5,000 on security from Nathaniel Davis Davis, in Saint Louis, Missouri.
- On March 15, 2021, Bush spent $2,456.25 on security from RS&T Security Consulting LLC in NYC.
Face it. If the Democrats have their way, you will be defenseless if someone tries to rob or kill you. Ain’t socialism great?
A man who is a former mayor and a busy “Defund The Police” social justice warrior was arrested this week on numerous felony changes for sexual crimes with children.
“The charges against Robert Emmanuel Jacob, who is openly gay and married as of 2019, include transportation of a child for lewd and lascivious acts, arranging a meeting for sexual purposes with a person believed to be underage, sexual penetration of a child under 16-years-old and harmful material sent with the intent to seduce a minor,” The Post Millennial reported.
According to law enforcement, child sex abuse may have begun in December 2019 and continued through March 2021. Sebastopol Police booked 44-year-old Jacob on 11 felony counts related to sexual assault crimes against a minor aged 14 or 15 according to police. In addition to the former mayor’s accused sex crimes, he has posted frequently in support of violent extremism against police. In June 2020, he thanked Black Lives Matter rioters, glorifying the arrested as “warriors” part of the infantry on the front lines. On June 5th Jacob posted on Facebook: “Progress Again!!! Finally, in regard to Trump’s fake news posts on FaceBook, Zuckerberg finally moved from protecting Trump’s “Freedom of Speech” to “We’re going to review the policy allowing discussion of threats… of use of force to see any amendments we should adopt.”
Again, thank you BLM, the rioters, and the protesters. Your direct actions are creating change,” Jacob posted.
On June 7th Jacob posted on Facebook: “Defund The Police” doesn’t mean we want anarchy and no law. It doesn’t mean we don’t need police officers. Those are talking points of the right. Dirty cops need to be fired. Departments de-militarized. Violent units disbanded. Defunding is about re-funding, as my friend Mary Coffey puts it. Defund the police to re-fund the resources we’ve been slashing for generations. For example NYC police budget is $6 bil, public health is $1.6 bil. Let’s fix that math.”
Jacob posted frequently about defunding police.
The Sebastopol police department released the following statement on the arrest:
“Sebastopol police arrested sexual assault suspect (Report #21-0220) On March 30, 2021, Sebastopol police officers received information of possible sexual assaults that occurred in the City of Sebastopol between December 2019 and March 2021. Upon further investigation, the suspect was identified as Robert Jacob. On April 10, 2021 at approximately 7:00am, Sebastopol police officers contacted Robert Jacob in the 7400 block of Woodland Avenue and took him into custody for an arrest warrant related to five felony and one
misdemeanor sexual assault crimes against a minor, including 266j PC, 288(c)(1) PC, 288.2(a)(1) PC, 288.2(a)(2) PC, 288.4(a)(1) PC, and 289(i) PC. Robert Jacob was transported to the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility and is being held without bail.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sebastopol Police Department at 707-829-4400 and refer to Report #21-0220
In physics, For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That applies to defunding the police also as the residents of Minneapolis are beginning to find out.
After the death of George Floyd, the Minneapolis city council and the mayor went full liberal and swore they would dismantle the police department and they encouraged rioters to oppose the police.
That leads us to the reaction. Crime is way up in the city and morale among police officers is way down. Violent carjacking has seen a 537% increase since they began their defund the police movement.
In situations such as they have in that city, police have a tendency to back off because if the altercation should break out, they don’t want to get charged with a crime.
How many times have we seen police shoot an armed man and the riots break out? Too many. It is often used as an excuse to loot stores and businesses.
Businesses have been destroyed and will never come back. Not only from the riots but the virus as well. It’s a double whammy that many small businesses can not recover from.
In just the last two months there have been almost 130 carjacking cases. There were 3 in a one hour span. In November, the number of carjacking cases were an increase of 537% over November of last year. The jackings were initially believed to be youths but there have started being arrests of adults committing the crime.
From The Blaze
The newspaper said Tuesday that Minneapolis has seen at least 375 carjackings in 2020, including 17 just last week. Those to-date 2020 figures are more than three times higher than all of 2019.
This current spate of attacks has been so significant that the Minneapolis Police Department was forced to create a new coding system after the violent protest-filled summertime saw an unusually high number of carjackings.
Minneapolis’ remaining cops have been taken aback by the specific crime wave. “The numbers are staggering,” police spokesman John Elder told the Star Tribune. “It defies all civility and any shred of common human decency.”
You can expect crime numbers to increase dramatically as the city council eliminates at least some of the police. many of the offenders could be those who now have no jobs thanks to the riots and the draconian lockdowns. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Former President Barack Obama is facing criticism from far-left progressives after stating in a Wednesday interview that the “defund the police” rhetoric is unhelpful to what Democrats want to accomplish.
““If you believe, as I do, that we should be able to reform the criminal justice system so that it’s not biased and treats everybody fairly, I guess you can use a snappy slogan, like ‘defund the police,'” Obama told Peter Hamby, host of Snapchat’s “Good Luck America.”
“You lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you’re actually going to get the changes you want done,” he continued.
The newest episode of the app’s original political show aired Wednesday morning, featuring the former president.
He has received fierce pushback from the more radical members of the Democrat party, including the infamous “squad”.
Represenatives Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Representative-elect Cori Bush (D-MO) all took to Twitter to double down on the “defund the police” rhetoric.
“It’s not a slogan,” wrote Bush. “It’s a mandate for keeping our people alive. Defund the police.”
Obama isn’t the only one to question the effectiveness of the “defund the police” language. Following the election – in which Democrats lost nine House seats – more moderate Democrats have blamed the loss on the “defund the police” efforts of the more progressive members of the party.
Democrat Senator Mark Warner of Virginia said that the “defund the police” rhetoric “led to Democratic losses in the last year.”
And Democrat House Representative Jim Clyburn told CNN that the progressive “sloganeering” is damaging to the policies they’re trying to enact: “We can’t pick up these things just because it makes a good headline, it sometimes destroys headway.”
In the interview, Obama encouraged progressives to focus on policy rather than getting caught up in rhetoric wars that cause confusion and inspire fear. For instance, he said that progressives should avoid the word “socialism” since it remains “a loaded term for a lot of folks.”
“So the key is deciding, do you want to actually get something done, or do you want to feel good among the people you already agree with?” Obama asked. “And if you want to get something done in a democracy, in a country as big and diverse as ours, then you’ve got to be able to meet people where they are. And play a game of addition and not subtraction.”
At a time of Democrat attacks on the National Rifle Association, and the increase in violent uprisings by far-left activists, as well as a radical left movement to defund local police departments, it is noteworthy that there is a general national surge in the purchase of firearms and an increase in concern for local police departments from the Black Community.
According to The Brookings Institution, “nearly 3 million firearms had been purchased since March when the public health crisis caused the shut down of major cities across the U.S.”
The research also shows that since March 13, when President Donald J. Trump first declared the viral outbreak a “national emergency”, firearm sales increased significantly over the next two weeks climbing as high as 176,000 orders on March 16 alone.
In the month of March, there were an additional 700,000 firearms bought more than usual. The data showed that the number increased again with a 50% increase for June sales around the time the protests over police brutality began to take over the nation.
Black Enterprise reported Saturday, “The protests over the death of George Floyd and others at the hands of law enforcement have sparked a surge in gun sales among Black Americans who have seen the highest increase since the beginning of the year.”
Many Democrats see this increase in gun sales as a further opportunity to cause division between groups of gun owners.
However many minorities agree with other gun owners on the importance of self-defense.
“Self-preservation is a universal law. We should be able to protect ourselves,” Gahiji Manderson, a member of the Hudson Valley Nubian Gun Club, told Reuters.
Democrats have started a new campaign to destroy the NRA, bring a lawsuit to meant to dismantle the powerful Conservative lobby group, from the state of New York.
Black gun owners have been vocal about the importance of ownership.
“The highest overall firearm sales increase comes from Black men and women, who show a 58.2 percent increase in purchases during the first six months of 2020 versus the same period last year,” said Jim Curcuruto, director of research and market development for National Shooting Sports Foundation.
“Bottom line is that there has never been a sustained surge in firearm sales quite like what we are in the midst of,” Curcuruto said.
Ironically at the same the gun sales figures were shown, a Gallup poll about defunding the police that indicated Black Americans don’t want to see police numbers reduced in their neighborhoods, came out.
“When asked whether they want the police to spend more time, the same amount of time or less time than they currently do in their area, most Black Americans—61 percent—want the police presence to remain the same,” the Gallup report stated.
Those numbers are similar to the 67 percent of all adults who preferred about the same number of cops; this included 71 percent of white Americans.
Also, 20 percent of Black Americans said they wanted more police presence compared to 19 percent who wanted less. In total, 81 percent of Black Americans want police presence to remain the same or increase.
Transgender activists posted online about another Transgender “woman” who was having a mental health crisis and needed police intervention enough that it was determined someone should contact the NYPD for help, and the advocates took the opportunity to post that they were unhappy with the background of the law enforcement officers who answered a 911 call, and the police procedures enacted to safely remove the person in danger.
The Transgender “woman” who placed the call also made a video and said that there was the hope of someone to intervene for the “Black trans woman” who had a mental health and counseling background because the law enforcement officers were too scary.
Before the Trans Activist posted on the night of the 30th, about the mental crisis of another Trans person, interestingly the same activist had come to the conclusion that police and emergency medical people were murderous on the morning of the June 29:
But that did not stop them from calling 911, and reporting concern for a friend.
One poster on Twitter following the story of the 30th, posted, “This is why we need mental health wards open and available again. So people can go to facilities where they can get the real help they need. This is clearly not the first incident for your friend, and she needs real help and evaluation.”
Instead of medical facilities for mental health crises, the group of activists wants heightened sensitivity from all public officials, to the mental health crisis of Trans people.
The situation ended peacefully, with the person getting help, however the advocate was not happy.
The following is a series of Tweets between Transgender activists that helps us gain a valuable perspective on what exactly these social justice advocates want of us and public officials:
Apparently the activists want people to better understand how they have “Triggered” an unlawful response to law enforcement.
This is where a White “Trans woman”, who is a member of Black Drug Unsers Matters, doxxes a Black female Police officer:
It is unclear where the defunding of the Police will lead for New York City. It is the stated objected of the Democrats to defund law enforcement and fund Social Workers who are getting training from far-left radical groups on how to facilitate safety during this mental health calls.
World history has shown that where there is no Law and Order, in larger population groups, the culture breaks down and the “bad guys” win. New York is a prime example; Where crime, shootings, and death numbers have skyrocketed since the announcement of NYC cutting one Billion dollars from their police budget and re-assigning all their plain-clothed police officers embedded in areas with the highest number of crimes.
Some politicians in NY are speaking out against the insane movement to de-fund local police departments. NY Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik made an aggressive point that de-funding the police will only hurt the very communities they’re trying to protect.
In an interview with Fox and Friends, Stefanik stood with America’s police:
“Our police are needed in the communities that are being hurt the most right now, where you are seeing the most violence. So, we need to defend the police, not defund the police..And, really look at how we can have positive change and that’s by increasing our training, that’s by increasing our community outreach. Not turning our backs on hardworking law enforcement.”
The 36-year-old U.S. Representative was the youngest person ever elected to Congress in 2015 when she was 30. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex beat that record, while Stefanik is still the youngest Republican to have ever been elected to Congress.
Stefanik referenced the JUSTICE Act, which Senate Democrats blocked from passing, as one way to create change and healing with the law enforcement-citizen relationship. The JUSTICE Act, which was spearheaded by Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), the only black Republican in the Senate, was a productive means of bringing about change without going to destructive means of defunding our law enforcement.
Democrat leaders from across the country are caving to uninformed emotional cries from the social justice warrior-types and are actually considering defunding their police departments.
The passionate please come in the midst of national unrest following the death of George Floyd and other black deaths at the hands of police, justified and unjustified.
Stefanik acknowledged that change is necessary but that racism has gone both ways and defunding the police is not the remedy:
“You know, there has been footage of the just horrible, horrible statements made to our African-American law enforcement officers…There is no tolerance for racism in this country and we absolutely need to root out bad actors like the case of George Floyd’s murderers. But, we shouldn’t be turning our backs on police which unfortunately we are seeing in New York City today,” she said.
Today, the four confused Amigas held a press conference to again remind us what a disaster our country would be with their “Squad” ideology the norm in the U.S.A. These Left-wing lawmakers announced federal legislation to defund police and set up reparations for people who either are black or were harmed by cops. Crime, shootings, and murders are skyrocketing in cities with large urban areas at the same time these neophytes want to take the police off the streets. Reparations are irrational, indeterminable, and divisive at their core, and only in a collapsed country would have a chance to be paid.
Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) are sponsors of the BREATHE Act, which was announced on a Zoom call. It has not yet been introduced. “We can start to envision through this bill a new version for public safety — a new vision for public safety, one that protects and affirms black lives,”
From New York Post
The BREATHE Act is unlikely to pass the Democrat-held House, which approved a police reform bill in June in response to the killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police.
Many Democratic leaders do not support defunding police and the recently passed bill came under fire from House conservatives for not curbing the power of police unions that shield officers from being fired. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) recently said it was a “local decision” to reallocate police funds, and President Trump has decried the idea as ludicrous as it picks up steam in cities from Minneapolis to New York.
The legislation has two reparations elements. It includes the Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), which has 135 Democratic co-sponsors. And it proposes a separate reparations program in honor of Michael Brown of Ferguson, Mo., who died in a 2014 altercation with a police officer.
The overview says the second reparations element would establish “commissions that design reparations for mass criminalization — including the War on Drugs, the criminalization of prostitution, and police violence; border violence; and the systemic violation of the U.S. Government’s treaty obligations to Tribal nations.”
The bill “will provide reparations for survivors of law enforcement violence, and the families of people killed by the police and the carceral system,” she said. “We know that the majority of the cases do not generate significant media exposure or public support. And those families may struggle to pay legal fees, access affordable mental health counseling, or even meet basic needs.”
From DHJ Media
Therefore, any bill that means to remove any of the funding that was already allocated for police would be an ex post facto law, and that’s unconstitutional. Article I, Section 9, Clause 3:
No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed. Ex post factor means a retroactive effect or charging someone for something they did in the past that wasn’t illegal until they created the new law.
The left continues to push for what they can’t get. Public approval, congressional approval, and Constitutional law are in the way from ending policing and allowing reparations payments to only one group in our country. We must fight back equally to take away the overconfidence that is the wind behind their progressive wings.
